I am shocked that we have not seen anything on the svx 450 from Cat. Has anybody seen or heard anything out there? Is it even going to happen?

A guy on the Facebook Timbersled group and I were talking...the R&D guy lives by him in Crested Butte and has been riding the prototype all winter. Supposedly it's go...he claimed to have already put money down on one for next year...

We'll see!

My brother's cousin's roomate's sister's husband tweeted that it will be an 800 2-stroke.

In all seriousness, I'm very curious as well. Should be interesting to see if it is some kind of game changer or just another bike with a kit. Which could be fine...just not a game changer.

I was thinking it was strange they had half of an unveiling at haydays then.....nothing. Guess well see! Maybe a snowcheck program

I'll be blown away if they have the money and their sh!t together enough to produce anything ground breaking.

While its cool to see another OEM seeing this sport as growing and wanting to get into it. I see it kind of lame that its just another kit bolted to a bike.. while the design of the skid does look pretty wild and easy to lean over on, I just see it as another one of the 4 already on the market. Maybe they do a few things to the bike to make it ready to go right from the showroom floor. These bikes are still not meant for it. Getting the track further under center with a snowbike specific frame could be a game changer...

The only thing my cat rep will tell me is that it will be a 2017 model and we will see it at the dealer show March 1.

New cat bike looks pretty legit to me.....

Move the track fruther under bike is a good move. I have my 450 yamaha 4"foward of TS it is a different game .It gives you footprint of 136 turns like 121. A.C new rear skid could be real good .
.

its just a sherco 450 with their home brewed version of timbersled

not a game changer, just another player in the game .. which is good for everyone

now when BRP reveals the rebirth of the snowhawk with a 550 2 stroke FI engine and centrifugal clutch .. that will be a game changer ;)

game changer

I'd be dazzled if someone can up with a lot better ski.

After riding the main versions out there this year and reading others reviews, a good ski and trail handling is the biggest block right now to sno bikes becoming mainstream and of interest to companies capable of mass production of kits or full on bikes.

As much as I like cat sleds, cat has about a 40 year history of struggling with ski design. That doesn't bode well for making a sno bike that handles.

Is it the ski or were we put it. Kit bikes put limits on were track and skis go. rake and trail on dirt bike might not be the best for skis.11" of fork travel can reduce wheel base 4" at bottom of travel not sure if this is what we want on snowbike

It is hard for me to tell. It saw a few tracks in the snow which appeared to be much wider than a snowbike would make but if they filmed from a sled and followed their same track once Maybe that is what I saw.

One thing seems certain - Yamaha has been making dirt bikes and sleds for a long time and has the resources to pull this off.

One interesting thing to ponder is whether the bike would be available to Yamaha motorcycle dealers and Yamaha sled dealers. If avail to mc dealers, imagine the dealer network already in place!

For me, the main reasons I am considering a snowbike are:

It can be used as a dirt bike in the off season

Ability to navigate off-camber terrain and explore

Probably much less depreciation vs buying a $12k sled which might be worth $6k 5 years later.

Rumor is that Yamaha approached the president of C3 to purchase the Yeti and they were turned down.

Hard to believe yamaha would do that. Yamaha is rarely the innovator, normally they take their time and get the product right the first time. With that said they are the reason for the 4 stroke dirt bike revolution. I just don't see yamaha buying out someone else's idea especially when it's a carbon fiber design. If they did try to buy the yeti the owner of the company is a fool, he should have taken the money and ran.
