Arctic Cat doesn't get enough credit

1989 Ext Mtn Cat

you didn't go back far enough, my 1989 ext mtn cat was the best stock 136" track sled made for its time.

I will give alot credit when the credit is due to Arctic Cat!!! Seem to be the most reliable two stroke out there and capable of more than what majority of the consumers need or ask for!! If they didn't they would be selling more M1000?

I wish I had a M7 or M8 as my back up sled!!!

regarding the Die hard AC fans of which I am one....I always think back to the poster from the late '90's that read: "When you buy an Arctic Cat the ATTITUDE comes for FREE !!!!" I still love that one. I have on '07 M1000 162 and that is one really reliable machine and performs excellent with out much additional $$ added. My '04 F7 EXT has 4500 hard miles on it and it still runs like new with the same top end speed. AC's have always been the one's that accept the big bore mods well too...both triples and twins and now turbos !!! Cheers.

Its good to see a thread with no bashing regardless of brand.
I in no way will say the cats have no problems, or are the best.
I went thru the early 9tower clutch issues, multiple counterbalance gears on my 2000 T-cat, and all the recalls on the 03 F-7.
The only one that left a bad taste in my mouth was the T-cat
even though I had very little down time, and great service and waranty from cat.
People always brought up all the recalls on the F-7, yet I never missed a day of riding, and only had to pull the recoil once and re-tie the rope to the handle. I still own that sled, and have well over 7000mileson it with only piston and ring replacement at my discretion.
My 08 M-1000 is a little heavy, and needs a little clutching, but with the 046 belt, and some chassis tuning I am very pleased with it so far with 500 miles and the same 046 belt I put on after the first 30 miles. I am very confident each time I ride that I will make it through the day.
Only thing that worries me is the diamond drive. This is mostly because my brother went through 3 of them with a cutler m-1000 mod.

I think all the brands have had there ups and downs over the years, but what I've seen from cat in the last six model years is a steady improvement. They're reliable, strong and the fit and finsh have come a long way (but still could be better). They haven't pushed the limits to far and haven't taken to many chances. Don't forget they pretty much paved the way in the ride catagory.

Great Thread!

We switched to AC a quaple years back!

Absolutely love CAT! OUR DEALERSHIP (Edge Performance)! & THE M-Series!!!

We had over 3,000 on both our M7's w/ no problems when we sold them

My Husband has a M1000 w/ nearly 3000miles on it, & my M1000 has 1500 on it w/ NO problems as of yet either!

As for being a so called "GIRL RIDER", the M-series took my riding to another level, it truely is a very manuvorable, light, rider friendly sled on all levels! I really don't believe my skill would have progressed as fast as it did if it weren't for the M-series! I HIGHLY recommend it to NEW riders & WOMEN riders for a mountain sled of choice!

Thanks Arctic Cat!!! :D

I had 11000 miles on my ext 550 special when i sold it put piston rings in it twice just as a precaution and it was rode hard.I am cat for life.and ya my john deer mower has m1000 stickers on the side of it.

Far as the M sleds go haven't missed a beat with mine in 3 years of running a big bore kit. No blown belts, issues or tows yet. They aren't the best on the trail and till this year didn't turn very sharp but in the pow lookout. I just hope they can stay in business with the ACAT stock going from $20.77 to $7.62 in the last 6 months.

Growing up as a kid, we had a 97 ZL 440. tough as nails. we had +10000 miles on the chassis with no problems. and we beat the piss out of it to. 2 motors and a couple suspensions though. but not to bad for 3 kids sharing it. now i have a 05 f6 sp and have had no problems what so ever with it. GO CAT!

I didn’t realize Artic Cat stock shares were down so low. Apparently a 15% decline in sled sales for 08. So the way I see it is that if 15% more of you Cat lovers bought new sleds, the threat of Artic Cat having to merge with Can Am would not exist! BRP stocks have gone up and are doing well. So get out there and buy new kitties quick. Can’t imagine a sled called “Artic Doo”… think that names been taken.

Purchased my first sled in 1985 and have rode Polaris and Yamaha the whole time till 06 when I went Cat. Bought a 05 M7 and put an 800 kit and lots of mods on her, very fun and easy to ride. But… Compared to Polaris and especially Yamaha the fit and finish on this sled isn’t that great, looks like Billy Bob assembled it in his backyard. I still like it though. Any yes Cat has come a long way, before the M sleds I would not have considered buying a Cat.

Actually, now I'm %100 sure I'm %100 sure my next sled will be an Arctic Cat.

My room mate just picked up a brand new 2007 M8 162" today .....

We spun her around a little bit on the way home from Heber today.

That is a damn nice sled. Damn nice.

If I get this pay raise I'm supposed to get I may just pick up an M1000 this year :)

Well put Mafesto. While the others were busy dogging Cat and going steadily downhill, Cat concentrated on what mattered most. Building a lightweight AND reliable sled. I started buying Cats because of EFI and the A-arm suspension and they've gotten better each year. The group I ride with is all Die HARD Polaris boys besides my brother and a buddy of mine. I don't get NEARLY as much ribbing as I did 4-5 years ago. Maybe that's because all this time I've had my sled waiting on the trailer to go while they were busy working on theirs.

I have a 95 EXT that we bought when got back into the sport in 94 that still runs great the kids beat the $hit out of it. Almost bought a Skidoo in 97 during the lean years but couldn’t be happier with the M1000. I have a 95 EXT, a 01 800 Mountain Cat, a 03 1M, a 05 M7, a 07 M8, and a 08 M1000. They all run great and haven’t had to end a ride early with any of them. They have come a long way if you ride all of them on the same ride. (When the kids come)
