Thinking about coming out beginning of April to the Snowies as my nephew wants to go out just as much as I do. On average what can a guy expect around that time frame? Thanks

Most years there is plenty of snow coverage, however the condition of that snow can vary heavily.

Typically we see some really good storms in April, but I've also seen it down to dirt in April too..

The best advice I can give is watch the weather, watch the snotels, be flexible on travel dates, and hope to get lucky.

also it really depends on your definition of good snow.. if your not snow snobs you should have a great trip.

I love spring riding here, I've been here 10yrs + and really like hero snow for exploring new zones.

April

As long as there's some snow. Lol. My nephew has only rode the Black Hills and he really wants the Mountain Experience. I haven't been out in a couple years or so. But just recently bought a sled again. Thanks for the info.

Last year we were there in January and it was great. Owenb2 showed us around one day so that was awesome. We then planned a trip mid March and backed out at the last minute. Temps were in the 60's for a few days and it did not look like it was going to improve much. Keep an eye on the weather and Snowest. Owenb2 is a straight shooter and will give you an accurate report as best as he can. He did for us last March. I still owe him a beer for that. Just don't tell him.:face-icon-small-sho

One time we were planning a mid-april trip with a new guy who hadnt been to snowies and were trying to convince him to drive his motorhome the 500 miles to get there. We told him, hey, its spring, mid-april, weather will be great.

First day was like we told him.

Snowed a foot in laramie and just as much on mtn that night. Next morning he said there is no way he is taking the home up to greenrock. Since we had left our sleds in centennial, our other buddy who had driven his f350 crew long box diesel said we could pile in with them so we fit 2-3 in the cab and two of us rode in the back with our sled gear on. He had a topper, we are not quite that hard core.

We pulled his 4 place up the hill, ran back to centennial and got our 4 place up the hill. At end of day we did the same routine but all the way to laramie.

It was a great sledding trip with stories we will remember forever.

As I remember you bought me a few and dinner! Haha

Thanks for the kind words, and it was a good day on the mtn with you all!

That was a good trip. Last year during that trip one afternoon we got back to the Rendezvous cabin and Don the owner said bad news man, the well pump is out and no one has any water. Hopefully it will be back up tomorrow. I said I doubt that's the problem. Checked out the breaker, fine. Me and my kid crawled on our hands and knees on gravel in the crawl space under the resort and found the expansion tank and pressure switch. Pressure switch, toast! I talked to the guy at the hardware store in Saratoga and he said he had one but they are closing in ten minutes. He said he would wait for Don to get there. After Don got back me and my kid installed it and, walla! The resort and all cabins have water again. The beer(s) were on him for the four of us that evening. See Owenb2. You helped us, we helped him. What goes around come around. Snowmobilers are like that! BRAAAP!
