Well to make a long story short my Toshiba laptop is NFG after 5+ years. I need to buy a new computer. I enjoy taking photo's and video. Hardware components for the value always lean me towards PC's. for example this configuration is on the top of my list.... (Package)http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=BDL10001662&logon=&langid=EN

(Computer detail click on Specifications for detail.....It won't link to spec's tab) http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0926INGFS10111876&catid=20217&logon=&langid=EN

I guess I'm wondering if I should avoid another PC and try an Apple Mac?

I understand you can run window's on the Mac now..?? Not sure why one would do this... Seems to me Window's is a much heavier operating software than Apple and would Bog down an already lesser looking Config..??

I understand that Mac has always been known for being great at Multimedia.... But I have to think that the New PC's are as good....??

What would be a good Apple to get and compare to the work power house PC I posted in the above link??

I did enjoy the portability of my laptop but I want a computer that can render video quickly and without glitching out.....

I'd also be interested in hearing about the different kinds of software available for Mac's and PC's??

Like always I value the members of Snowest's opionions because I think we are some of the most discerning individuals out there :face-icon-small-win

My vote is for Mac. My original G5 from 2001 is still running better/faster than my latest PC. Apple just works ! You can run windows stuff on the new Macs if thats what your into. If your into graphics, music, internet, etc Mac is a breath of fresh air. No viruses in 7 years and no protection to speak of. Watch the switch ads on Apple, they are simply the truth. Go to a Apple store and try one out for yourself.

I am very biased. I have been using macs for 5 years now. They run very well! My parents own a PC of 'equal' capacity, and it just doesn't seem to operate nearly as well! Especially with photos and video I would go mac.

Mac all the way. They take some getting used to as it is different to use from a PC. Once you get past the learning curve, you wont go back to PC. they can run windows but your right, why ruin a masterpiece with windows garbage?

Summitboy - holy faak that's a titanium G4 if it was new in 2001...even cooler that it is still kicking serious arse!

We've got a 6+ year old G4 17" laptop now running OS 10.4.9, only because I am too cheap to buy Leopard. It is an awesome machine and can almost keep up with my Dell M6300...pretty good considering the Dell has 3x the RAM and cost over double what the G4 did.

It's true that you can run Windoze on Macs now because they are running Intel chips. I have heard that the Macs are a more stable platform for running Windoze than PCs. Kinda funny.

You will not get any Mac Pro for $1000

Not to mention all PCs come with Vista now which is a POS OS.

So another vote for Mac, but know that I am in no way any kind of computer expert.

If I were to start over I'd go MAC and this is coming from a PC guy (not a wiz like some but very comfortable) and this is why.

Most PC's since they are so common and widespread they use all sorts of parts and pieces from different manufacturers. Intel, AMD, and on and on.

MAC's on the other hand are much more proprietary and everything is built to Apple's specs if not built in house. Everything is optimized to run together. I think this is why they tend to be more trouble free and is also probably part of the reason why they're more expensive.

Kinda like building a Mod sled by picking a bunch of parts from a bunch of Aftermarket shops versus Taking your sled to Carl's Cycle or another specialty shop and having them build it so that all the goodies work together.

Get a mac. You will like it.
No more installing useless drivers for lousy software or patches for that...
Stable, no locking windows, no viruses,,
You can run windows in a mac through Boot Camp, I do it for my autocad.
clean and clutter free desktops, You go into a mac store, buy your computer fire it up, and go.

Yep, Mac.

Been using them since System 6, so I'm a little biased.

I have winxp, win2k, slackware, and dos running in vmachines on this computer. Max out the RAM and you'll be good to go. IMO windows runs better on my Mac inside OS X than it does on my work computer. Bonus to running windows in a virtual machine is that when it BSOD's, it doesn't take the whole machine down with it.

Got a MacBook Pro at the end of August. Hard drive went out on September 8th (too many dirty flicks i guess). Apple was very good about replacing the computer though, and have had no problems with the new one and so far am pretty happy. Personally, I wish I would have gotten a PC just because it works for my schooling better, but as a personal puter, you can't beat a Mac.

Got a macbook and I use it for school everyday. It has been a really sturday laptop it is not heavy at all and it is very good for putting sled clics, videos, and music on everything is very easy once you get the hang of it.

My personal laptop is a Mac, and I will not go back to a PC for personal use. If I could, I would get our company to change over to Mac.

Lot's of Pro Mac users here.... And not any people really defending PC's..... I would of thought that somebody would have tried to put up an arguement against the Mac's.... Just kind of say's it all I guess.....

So I guess my next question about Mac's would be which would be the one you would purchase and what Mac's if any would you stay away from?

Would you make your decision on Hardware configuration and or Software available for the Mac's?

I have no idea what I'm looking for in a Mac.... All I know is that they cost twice as much as a PC of the same configuration and that kind of freaks me out some... LOL

Dont be afraid of the price, im running a mac book pro with leopard and its a whole other world. i have windows dowloaded on it, so if i need a windows application for something i can open it up in a internet-like browser, its pretty amazing. No downloading update bull**** all the time, everything works together, to print anything just plug in and go....

as for what one, i use the mac book pro, its silver and works good....

my girlfriend is the technical one on all of this stuff....;)

Just browsing the Mac Store.... And it almost looks like the Laptops have more connectivity options..... like usb ports and modem's incase you are somwhere there isn't any highspeed like at work..... Edit; Looks like they don't have modem's..... If I want a modem do I have to get an older Mac?

Looks like the only one with a quad core processor is the most expensive..... Go figure my taste's have to be the most expensive.... LOL

They sure look nice though and I see what people mean by apples hardware, apples software, etc... It makes sense that they run smooth becasue you don't have all the other manafacturer's and software developers trying to make a mix matched system run smooth.....

I think I'm seeing the light....

Only thing that would shy me away from the mac's is this and its nothing to do with their comps, I like them much better than my Toshiba, but here is the catch for me, Im a pretty conservative guy , they donated big $'s to the gay initiative that was trying to be passed in Cali during this election. So even though there product is better IMO I wont buy their stuff any longer knowing what they stand for and contribute too. Just my .02. Bring on the flames and red dots.

Well you had to post when I was wondering about connectivity..... LOL

Like if I have a USB printer and a USB stick and a USB Joystick but only have one or two USB ports to plug them into.....???

What do you do.... I know they were born that way from the factory.... But what do you have to do buy a Mac printer 2 ??

Is there a whole world of wireless devices I'm going to need if I go Mac?
