apex vs. rx1

I am looking at getting a used apex or rx1. The rx1s (2005s)I am looking at have a lot of lite weight parts on them (close to -100lbs) and 162" tracks. The apexs (2006s) are mostly stock as far as weight. Both are boosted. Is the weight or the fuel injection more important? What other differences are there between the 2?

I have an Apline RX-1 and I would not buy a Apex just for the reason of having EFI unless it was really cheap.I have no issues with jetting I just leave it.Just think how many people know a days say they wish they had an old car cause they could fix it.Kind of the same idea.:beer;

The only thing that would hold me back from an RX is the
throttle-chop/flame-out

I had a racer's edge rx-1 with around a 100 pd weight reduction, and went to a stock apex with same turbo and hands down loved the apex over my lightweight rx-1. 2 bov's does alleviate the throttle chop, but wasn't a perfect remedy. Please boys, this is my opinion on sleds that I have owned personally. Not a knock on the rx-1, like I said I had an awesome sled built by one of the best in the business (racers edge) you can find both apex and rx-1 dirt cheap these days. snofix just sold one for around 10000 I think.

If it were me I'd go for the weight savings. The FI is awesome but I'd personally rather have a lighter sled if it is rider forward.

do you mean like that old ford truck of yours,that diesel were you can turn the distributor and advance the timing,crank the boost oh yeah,and if you adjust your rear view mirror it's like your pulling nothing at all??????make sure you use spell check so I can read your response.:D:beer;:beer;:D

What is this? I have also been told once rolled or parked at the wrong angle you must take the intercooler off a rx1 to get it started. Is this true?

If you chop the throttle and hit WOT it will gurgle sometimes due to to much fuel being injected.

If you roll it one might have to take the intercooler off... I have had it nearly upside down and just held the throttle wide open and it started before the battery died. If you get one stuck on the hill just turn it off get it flat and then start it holding the throttle wide open. It will blow smoke and sound like ****! Even take a minute or two to clear it out when riding it.

Hope that helps.

I've never had to pull my intercooler off but I have had it flood on some occasions after a roll. Hold the throttle pinned and crank it till it clears. When an RX1 is flooded it is really important that you have the sled level and the exhaust clear before you crank it over to clear the flood. It is also important to have your float level set up correctly. Once you have lived with the idiosyncracies (sp?) for a while you don't even think about it anymore. They just plain work.

Rx1

I've got an RX1 that iv'e rollled many many times and i have never had to take the intercooler off after yet. Just make sure you get it on level ground, hold it pinned and crank till it starts. make sure you have a good battery. those small light weight ones don't last as long as the stock battery.

Roll it over, like everyone says hold it open and clear it out. I rode a rx-1 this year and had a lot of fun. I just got a Apex and there is just something about having a newer sled. More then anything the tight newer chasis. It takes a good tuner to get a rx-1 to come close to being as responsive as efi. But it can be done, close anyway. The price difference is so huge between the two. I can't believe how cheap I had to sell my rx-1...:( That cost difference alone can be a easy decision maker on which one to get.

I've only heard of this happening on sleds without tethers. When you roll the sled and fall off, it dies and the fuel pump keeps running until you shut the key off. Upside down RX-1 with fuel pump running = intercooler full of gas.

ive become somewhat of a pro when it comes to checking my skid and track. almost every time i ride it ends up upside down! Ive found holding the throttle wot works okay if you give it a couple of minutes. the best way i have found that if you hold it wot till it starts then while its sputtering alternate the throttle open then closed quickly for some reason it comes out of its fit the fastest this way.. too bad i just figured this out two trips ago.

Get the fi and don't worry about jetting or starting after a roll over. Weight is not an issue with a turbo. Just turn up the boost! :beer;
