Apex Mountain?

I currently own a 07 Crossfire 800, basically bone stock other than a can and 2 inch challenger track. The Apex has always caught my eye and think that Yamaha’s four stroke technology is solid. Drove one the other day for the first time and felt very similar to my crossfire to ride. I make several trips to BC a year and just would like everyone’s 2 cents on the Apex Mountain before making a switch. Rode Cat my whole life so it might take some serious thinking haha.

Thanks for now,

I think maybe the ones I have ridden are set up poorly, but man to me they handle like chit. They seem very off balance and tippy to me, I like the rev chassis better. Not to mention N/A they are a bit of a pig.

Well that's the first thing, ride one for a while and make sure you like it. I sure like mine and wouldn't switch to anything else unless I wanted to get into some serious jumping or drops. Then I believe the weight is just too much. I changed seat, exhaust, and drop brackets and sled works awesome now. Taking that weight off changed it completely. As an all around sled works great in my opinion.

Stock - They are extremely reliable - They do not ride heavy in the snow but in hard pack conditions they do.

The power is good but because of the weight they are not going to highmark well tuned 800's.

They will run with any stock sled in a road race (trail) they are fast.

I have one but it is turboed, 174" track, etc... kind of apples to oranges from stock to turbo.

I love mine!!

Apex mountain is a great sled. Every sled requires some getting used too, and once you learn how to ride the Apex, you'll find it very maneuverable. Power will not dissappoint in stock form, and turbo i'm sure is incredible (mine's not turboed yet). Reliability is top notch and the reason I bought one. 3200 miles and motor is rock solid with only oil change maintenance.

Thanks guys for your input and more relpies from others are certainly appreiciated. Im off to Revy first week of Feb...maybe a local will let me take one for a couple pulls up Boulder Mt.

I love mine. In snow with about a foot of fresh over a bit of base I was climbing faster than the older Rev chassis sleds. You wont highmark one in the deep pow but once you have some base look out they rip up the hill. mine is stock as well.

I just started riding mountain sled last year after purchasing an 06 M7. My brother bought an 08 M1000 and my uncle bought an 06 Vector mtn (162). As far as i know, the Vector is a lot like the Apex. All of us have had the chance to swap sleds on occassion and all agree that the Yamaha seems very tipsy on off camber and hard pack. Lots of torque and good quality but is a handful for an inexperienced rider. I am sure a person could get use to the Yamaha but is not as "easy" as the other sleds.

Well said, those have been my experiences as well.

I rode Cats my entire life and recently switched to an Apex. I will never go back to a 2 stroke. I can only notice the weight when I'm stuck, but other than that, electric start, reverse, looks and quality are superior to anything out there.

Apex

I absolutely love mine, slowly working at reducing weight, squeaking out a few more ponies, but right out of the crate I think they are a great sled (as long as the dealer sets them up correctly).....

What drop brackets are you using? And is that all you need or do you have to change a lot of other things? And what exactly did they do for you. Oh yea I am coming off cats also, and love my Apex so far, I have a pivot riser on mine, and it makes it way easier to handle.

rode one for a day in south dakota and loved it.
once i got use to it w/o the sway bar i could lean it over just fine.
o and im 14 150lbs on a STOCK 07 apex

They are the aluminum drop brackets from Timbersled. Just loses a bunch of weight. Forgot to say I also put a riser, much more comfortable. I think I'm going to lose the headlight, it's heavy. And thinking about the front a-arms also but that's expensive. I guess another thing to lose a bunch of weight is to go with a different rear suspension such as a Timbersled.

Once you go 4 stroke u never go back

besides the unparralelled reliability, the apex doesn't ride like it weighs. Sweet sled with lots of potential. Get a VA tunnel and a new skid and drop the stocker exhaust and you will be down 80 lbs. I take my apex everywhere my buddies ride thier 2 strokes. Every sled has its learning curve and I think you won't be disapointed!!!!!!!

i got all the timbersled goodies on my apex from front to back and motor is stock, and wow it made it a very rideable sled also simmons gen 2's are awesome for apexes

I ride an 07 apex mtx (lightened quite a bit) and my buddy has the 162 vector mountain se. these sleds are night and day. The apex is much more stable and has a lot more power. Both sleds are awesome and have been beaten to hell with no mechanical problems. I say get the apex, mtn tamer suspension w dropbrackets, boss seat, and lighter exhaust, and you'll love it.
