apex front end

The front end is very strong. I have wacked a lot of things and havent bent anything.

NOW......how does it drive???? Well, up untill the kits they started building for this winter the spindle they were sending out in the Kit was VERY aggresive. You pretty much couldnt drive the sled on a trail over 45mph with out it darting so bad you about roll it.

Late last winter they offered a trail spindle for 250.00 for the pair. That new spindle is now what all the kits get sold with. I'm told it fixed the problem. Time will tell. Eric

However aggressive the originals may be we did a all out 2 mile pull down a lake with 2 turbos and 1 stage 3 supercharger All on bark buster frond ends.

Your guess is as good as mine on how fast that may be, did not have any time to look at the speedo -- she was shifted right out at max RPM.
And I am still alive maybe check your ski alignment if you have trouble at 45 MPH

You can go 150mph if your in fresh snow or cutting your own track. Its becomes a problem on a packed/rutted trail OR...coming down a shoot/hill after a climb.

Believe me....I adjusted everything I could to keep it from darting, Its not my first rodeo.

If it wasnt a problem, there 2010 kits would NOT have updated spindles on them......Right? Eric

I relay never felt it to be a problem--- I also never ran the stock ski though --simmons all the way maybe that is the difference. And always ran good shocks currently gen 2 floats.

But relay I never felt it to be a issue at all on the Apex I will take a Apex timber set up anywhere faster than I would ever dream to ride the Nytro.
Now there is a poor handling frond end.:face-icon-small-hap

I've heard about the barkbuster front end darting problem before from a friend who had it on his apex, that's why I posted this thread.
I think I'll stick with the stock spindles for now. I found a used Holtz front end.

A word of caution for you guys. In my search for a front end I came across a company called Alternative Impact that makes A-arms for the Apex. I was surprised to find out they use only 0.049 chromoly for the lower arm and 0.035 chromoly for the upper arm.
There is no way that will hold, The apex is just too heavy for that steel, I've bent much thicker A-arms without hitting anything, just riding the bumps.

Its getting harder and harder to find parts for my dinosaur, couldn't find anyone that still makes apex a-arms in Canada.

I spoke with Allen(Timbersled) at length at the Salt Lake City snow show before purchasing my NEW 2009/2010 Apex front end. Timbersled recognized that their pre 2009/2010 front end kits needed to be improved due to the darting/handling issue. They moved the spindles back 1", if I recall correctly, so as to better line up with the ski mounts.

I have two full seasons on my Timbersled suspension and I have no complaints. I hit a few trees (some large ones ) and the front end held up. I am not running Fox Floats just the stock shocks in the front. I heard that some guys were running the floats and if they ran to much pressure the handling wasn't very good.

.

Can you please inform me, as you seem to be an very knowledge guy, you have looked up wall thickness on a-arms from one maker, can you please inform me how thick walled tubes everyone else use?
From your statement they must use much thicker tubes, what material do they use?
Because everyone else is as light they must use much lighter material?
I'm very interessted as i just bought a set from them!

Called today about the wall thickness for the Apex. The information was not correct. The wall thickness for the uppers is in fact .049. I have purchaced a set of Ti arms for my Nytro recently and was blown away by the visaual quality of the whole package, very well done. Cant wait to get the sled on the snow. I bought them only after hearing nothing but possitive comments of guys on this forum that have them also. i exspect they will live up to the hype, but time will tell.

I'm not an expert on A-arms. I just did some research since I already bent one set. CR Racing use .065 for the lower arms and .049 for the upper. Holtz suspension use the same steel. Neither one still makes arms for apex. The wall thickness measurements for the Alternative Impact arms came from Dan the owner himself, but could have been wrong I guess.

Anyone heard anything about the carbon fiber rails. I know from first hand that if that stuff takes so much as a slight glance from anything that would break the surface of the material, that creates the starting point of a "for sure" breaking point. Sorry to change the subject, i know i'm new to this forum.

thought I would post feedback on the new spindles for the timber front end. I had a complete front end on the shelf all last winter because I didnt like the way it handled put the new spindles on it and running trails so far this year it is great, handles like a stock front end.... julio
