Apex - Boondocking Sled?

Looking at a Apex and have run Cat's my whole life, just wondering if the Apex is a machine that can be thrown around in the POW and what experiences people have had with them? At this point, looking at a stock sled.

Thanks!

I ran an 06 rev 800 last year, this year I am running an apex, after about 250 miles, you get used to the handling and control, in powder I can toss the apex just as easy if not better than my rev.My apex is not turboed yet, but I can honestly say I prefer it to my rev and my friends nytro in the powder.

I switched from a M7 to the Apex. the handling is not even close the same. the M's are way more flickable. The Apex handles flatter (more like a rev imo). you just have to give it alot more body english than what a cat requires.it can also get frustrating when your stuck in chest deep powder with the heavy pig. but like noszed said (hey, that rhymes:D) you will get used to it. just buy a snobunje and ride with some buddies that will help dig your sled out. be warned though the torque is really addicting, and will take a little time to get used to. it also seems to take acouple hundred miles bfore the motor begins to loosen up. at first I did not like mine but after learning to ride it alot more agressively I'm having alot more fun.:D

Short answer: NO.
LMAO

In pow the Apex handles like a dream, in hard pack-off camber situations it can be a beast. If you can't handle one in the Pow, you need to reach down and grab your balls.....(or you just can't ride). Watch Thunderstruck 6 where a 120 lb lady is carving it up like mad with a Turbo Apex.

I also run an M7 and it is slightly easier to throw around in the pow but the fun factor is not even in the same league as the Turbo Apex.

Apex boondocks in deep powder with ease. Still riding the sled bone stock for 2 years, and loving every reliable minute of it. Stock will kinda fall on it's face in 4 feet of fresh on a steep hill climb, but, heck, nothing a turbo wont solve. I've played around with limiter strap, which drastically affects rideability on hard pack, off camber terrain. If the limiter strap is shortened, it is very difficult to deal with on concrete snow. Loosen it at least half way, and riding is alot easier on hardpack. Allows the nose to lift up, and with a little body english, the sled will maneuver with ease. No regrets here!

limiter strap

snowaddiction2 what hole are you running the strap in? mine was all the way out, and I had to run alot of ground speed to stay on top in the fluff. I was used to going alot slower when picking my way thru the trees. I sucked the limiter strap up today, but have not had a chance to test it. but didn't want to get to much ski pressure.

Limiter Strap

I'm back to running the the strap at 2nd hole from the top (top being the longest the strap could be). I too was having a trenching problem when we had 4 feet of light pow. I attempted to reduce the track angle of attack, but when i tightened the strap to the 2nd hole to the bottom, I hated it on hardpack. Ski pressure was way too high. I didn't get a chance to try the tightened strap in deep powder though.

The next big pow dump, I will tighten up the strap and see how it works. I do believe the trenching is being caused by the sled lifting up and changing the track angle of attack. Not sure if the added ski pressure (with the strap tightened) in deep powder will be an issue.

buy a nytro if you want a 4 stroke that handles like a 2 stroke.
you get used to a nytro and you'll be thinkin
anythin you can do i can do better when running with 7 or 800 artic cats,
i ride with them every weekend on my nytro.....they both agree
dont get me wrong i rode both sleds and had a blast but, i was happy to get back on my nytro

I used to ride an old rx-1 and well, the nytro just feels liiight, i've ridden an apex a few times and i got stuck a lot more........they are good in a striaght line though, hot rod on powder
