Has anyone eliminated the AIS idle valve and sealed up the lines before on a Apex? On my project I have a stand up intercooler and when installed it touches the valve assy and even with me moving it back it gives me issues. I know on cold starting I would have to baby sit it but once warm will it idle ok? Thanx for any info guys. Shad

The IAC is your only source for idle air. The air flows through the assembley and enters the throttle bodies behind throttle plates via a hole in the side of the throttle bodies.
There are 4 small screws that control air flow to each cylinder. Even if you mess with those screws, the sled will idle like crap. There is no other way to properly distribute idle air with any sort of control.
The IAC can not be removed.

I say modify your intercooler. Any decent welder could do it.

Yes do not remove it. I had a PINHOLE leak on one of the vacumn lines and it wrecked havoc on my idle and I could not get it figured out till I decided out of desperation to replace all the vacumn lines and that is when I found it. Seeing the difference a tiny little hole makes, there is no way to remove the IAC. Like NM said fix your intercooler much better solution all around.

Shad I have removed it on seven sleds they idle just fine you need to adjust the butterfly so that the butterflies are open just a crack do it with this sled running till you get the RPMs you want and then set the locknut I think personally they idle and run better with the AIS: taken off the only issue I have seen is starting on cold mornings you have to crack the throttle and hold it till the sled warms up the rest of the day no issues for you could put some longer tubes on your intercooler I have done that on a couple NYPEX like yours you only need to go about half an inch longer to get you plenty of room in there leave the top to the same length and it should clear your steering post fine

I'm in the process to check and clean my aic since having hard time getting down to warm idle from cold. Would this cause fat wot etc.?

Some thing on my apex, AIS has been removed and as stated only issue is cold starts , everthing is fine once it starts to warm up

How much of pain is the coldstart without it, can you just turn the key into a certain degree of outdoor temp, and how much time do you need to fiddle with the gas after starting in the colder temps.

When cold , no problem starting , say at -10 , i have to hold the throttle for30-60 seconds( just cracking it ) then it will idle and warm up on its own , i do run a standalone ECU , so i did tune the starting program , so a stock sled my act different .

I have same problem. New motor in my MCxpress apex starts really hard when cold. Have to use the throttle gently to get it to run a few minutes, then when warmed up starts and runs great. Do you have a picture of where this AIS is?

Can the AIS cause the idle to hang up when a sled is warm? My Nypex sometimes does that but not always. It doesnt happen enough that I've bothered to make changes just something I was thinking about.
