Anyone Used M1000 Gearing In A M8

A buddy of mie uses it in his 08 m8 turbo, the machine really rips. He says hes going to put the m8 gears back in tho. I think to unload some of the lag but not sure..........

Yes. We put 60/60's in when the factory drive exploded on my 08 M8 RGT.(DD lite was the solution of course). Didn't think much of it until I began missing the nice grunt or pull after engagement. I am planning to put 55/65's in this summer and if it's to low (I doubt it will be) I'll go back to stock and put the 55's in my stock backup M8. Jay-0

Most guys go the opposit way and put the 800 gears in the 1000.

This is the avenue Ill be going for next season as Arctic cat hasnt offered me any real help with the 8 belts I wore out in 780 miles. I made 3 different phone calls and the best they could do was just say take it to yer dealer.....

I run the 60/60 gearing in my race gas turbo m8. If you want track speed for hill climbs its the only way to go. I found with the stock I ran out of gears when winding it up. If the sled isn't turboed I wouldn't do it. I know travis and the ovs boys always gear up to 60/60 on the m8. My 2cents
Chris.

Awe come on Slediot, your the "only guy" out there having troubles with belts.... No really..... No?.... Must be doing something wrong! haha. I kid

OUCH!!! Put vented panels on, gear it down, and find a good clutch set-up. One of our guys was eating belts on his 1000, after side panels and gearing it down, the belts lasted pretty good. There does seem to be a problem with the balance of the shifting of the two clutches.

I have Boondocker side vents called Gills, an SLP flowrite right in the shock tower, Ive upgraded to a RKtech secondary kit and vented my clutch cover. Ive even added some weight to my primary to "tamee" it down a lil. Last ride I grenaded a belt with my hood off and took a chunk of rubber right in the helmet, and bent my clutch cover The last thing I can do is gear it down. My dealer had both of his mechanics all over my sled with me the 1 day, we went over everything. The pimary is toed in .043 thou so when it torques it is aligned. there is literally nothing left to do other than a geardown. And then if that doesnt work Im almost willing to get a pilots license and fly right into AC head quarters. (Not a threat just how I feel).

Man I love my Arctic cats, still there nothing out there that performs like the cats.......

Slediot it sounds like the same problem I had. Problem was in the secondary clutch kit that i got from RKT and there was a white bushing that i didnt take when i put it together. make sure the shives open up all the way

I've swapped drives between my 8 and 1000. Eventually went to 8 gearing (57/63) Black Diamond Lite Drives in both sleds. No turbos for me, so I personally liked the lower gearing much better in both sleds. I would really like to try 55/65 on each sled. All I want is 45 mph track speed consistantly. I don't care to have the fastest sled on the flats. All about function.

Ratio?

On this subject, what is the gearing in these DD's?

I see 60/60 and 55 and what not, but if I'm not mistaken that is the the gear on the secondary shaft and the first gear/input gear for the planetary gear.

I also see the 34t input gear (sungear) but the number of teeth on the ring-gear is nowhere that I can see?

Anyone know? Same on all drives?

For a good explanation of the gearing and ratio go to bd xtreme. com website.

Thank mountainguy. According to them the planetary gears are all 2,24:1 so add that with the 60/60 number or whatever you got.

Surprised it is so low, since my friend with a 09 M1000 hit past 100mph with his. That calls for some pretty high rpm's with that kind of gearing...

Would apreciate any thoughts/comments on the "total" gearing of the DD since I'm talking with a friend of mine about his M1000.

Max speeds on M1000? Clutch ratio? Any overdrive?

Thanks

100mph 102mph is max what you get with the stock gearing at 7900rpm..
And it have 0,80 overgearing.

So I cant see no gain in putting a M1000 gear in a M8.The M8 needs to be turboed or so to get use for the M1000 gear.
Stock M8 gear have teoretical topspeed at 145kmt/90mph/8000rpm. x0,80 =72mph.So if you get track speed upphill grater than 72mph go for the M1000 gearing. But if geting 72mph trackspeed on a stock M8 then you might want to go for a better track...
