Anyone try the new Carhartt shell?

I was down at the local clothing place and they have a basement FULL of Carhartt stuff, when looking through the coats, i noticed a they now have a winter shell that is waterproof. They are a little more stiff than the ski style coats i have worn, but the thing has that good old Carhartt durability feel. They are on sale and i can get them for $105, its only a shell, but i like the ideal of super durable, my old shell lost a zipper, and a freakin mouse chewed through the coat when i left it in our shop, the coats look like perfect for somebody like me who rides mainly trees. heres a picture, the hood is removable, the price is dang good for what it is. might try one out, just looking for some opinions.

I use one for work. (Log home building/construction) Seems to be holding up pretty well. I'm thinking about trying it out for riding...

I rode in one all last winter and it work great. I like it better than the high end gortex coat I have.

are you talking about thomas' in butte.....my dad is going to try one this year...seems to be a good shell...it might require a good fleece layer under it for the colder-days

i still have a nice warm liner from my columbia coat, and i wear a good warm longsleeve underarmor style underneath that.

i just like the durability, and yeah, its at the Thomas place, going again tommorow with my liner to find a good size, because the regular larges are way bigger than there normal large tall like my normal coat.

probably going to try it as for $110 bucks its hard to find a decent shell, and i know carhartt stuff kicks arse!!

Is that the Model J162 jacket? I got one that I use for work and love it, although I still use my Klim Valdez or Powerxross for riding. I think it would work well and that's a damn good price!

They hold up great, i've had my carhartt jacket for... 7 years now? Frayed a bit at the cuffs, but it's still in great shape and keeps me warm.

If it's cotton, waterproof the hell out of it before you ride....

I was looking at one last night and I think it would work like a charm! Carhart stuff is the best! if you can find their neoprene fire retardent zip up hoodie they make buy one!!!!! I wear that all the time sledding.

Glad to hear they hold up for working, my problem isnt the waterproof (my old coat sucks) its the durability when bouncing of trees and playing with the saw and whatnot in the hills, my other one got kidna worn out.

and Mule, its not Cotton, its Nylon shell, and poly insides. For being right around $110 on sale, its hard to beat carhartt durability, i know its a new thing for them, but i havent seen a single thing they make that doesnt last FOREVER!!!

I bought one the other day. I have a pair of carhart bibs made out of the same material loved them so hopefully jacket works as well. Cant beat the price!!!

carhart

Thanks for the heads up.

I determined yesterday that I need a new Jacket. And the matching snowmobile outfits kinda sicken me, I think this would work great with my freeride pants, I'll go check them out!

Thanks!

I rode with one last year for the first time. Works great. The only thing I miss is the vents in the arms for some air flow. My Helly Hansen had them. The Carhart kept me dry , and in Washington that's the goal. It is a little heavy , but in Montana it should be perfect.

i dont mind a tad heavy, i just want to know im gonna be dry, i layer a ton, so heat isnt an issue either, so i guess this looks totally like the coat for me,

thanks for all the responses.
