ANYONE RUNNING MOTO SYTLE "BARKBUSTER" HAND GUARDS ON THEIR SLED??

This might sound silly, but do they collapse or hit your hands at all when you are riding? Or do they stay"ballooned" out the whole day?

more like a baggy mitten....the metal bolts showing in the pic below are part of his mods...they do not come with OG product. They just slide on and off over the ends of the bars.

Skibreeze and his little delicate fingers:face-icon-small-sho are tucked behind them on trail jaunts...but never uses them once we are actually smashing the pow.

Do you have any more detailed photos of your guards where they attach to the handlebars (the "inside" mount)?

Thanks,
MH

Mountainhorse,

Here is how my Rox Flex Tech's mount (they are the same Skinz fabric with Rox flexible backing).

They stay ballooned out the way they are made. They do get in the way a bit from time to time getting your hands back on the bars. I only use them to cut the wind chill when well below zero hauling azz to and from our riding areas. For that they are priceless for my delicate little fingers, as Tudizzle pointed out. ;)

LOL.

I seem to have less interest in handguards that attach out at the bar ends.

I might like the Rox set up in the picture above. That IS what they are, right?

Yes, they are Rox Flex Tec's. Here is a front view where you can see Rox' name, and the little tag on the top says Skinz. Rox is just adding a different mount and the plastic flexible backing to a Skinz soft cover.

They are pretty solid/firm, but I don't know if they are exactly what Mountainhorse is looking for. Obviously they are not as solid as the Barkbusters or other motocross styles, but they are better than other snowmobile styles I have used (Polaris, Powermadd, etc).

I ride in a harescramble series and have yet to hear about someone breaking a bone by being caught in a barkbuster. Not sayin it has never happened just don't think it's very likely. Just my .02

This shows the handlebar mount. The Skinz gaurds come with velcro straps that I just wrapped around and secured with a zip tie to keep them out of the way. The Skinz gaurds are bolted to the Polaris Pro Taper handgaurd mount.

We have been running these for years and have had no issues, only concern I have had from the beginning has been mentioned, what happens if you lose your grip and your hand/arm get tangled up....I don't drop cliffs so its been a non-issue so far. Absolutely love running these things, they have saved me so many times, no more bruised fingers or second guessing lines.

Here are some pics taken a few years back when I first started using them. I love how I can roll my sled in May snow and not worry about anything breaking or bending!!!

They do need some minor tweaking to get them to fit the curved tipped bar, simple to do and can be done by almost anyone with a vise.

i think there are wrap arounds that dont have the aluminum stiffener so they would break if you went over the bars but still durable for controled roll overs

I went with the Skinz.

And I have left the neoprene outer shell off in the spring and went with just the mount and plastic shield. Not bad at all.

I'm sure this winter I'll need the whole deal when it's cold.

i wonder?

I had a set of just the hand guards on an older sled, got rid of em cause they got in the way once in a while, and were constantly f'ed up.

I would hate to get tangled up in the barkbuster style...

I had Acerbis ones on my CRF and loved em.. but,,,, bikes and sleds are two completely different animals!!!

I use the Cycra Probend CRM guards suggested by BCIL. (A must if you run a trigger throttle.)

I ran them last year on stock Proclimb bars. I had to bend/twist the ends to fit the down-sloped handlebar ends but it was pretty easy to do. I will be using them this year with Protaper bars.

They are great for tree bashing. You can bounce off trees without worrying about crushing your fingers. They are very strong.

Only downside I found is actually a positive for powder:
If you try to turn "into" a turn and lean forward - you will crush your wrist on the guard. This reminded me I was doing it wrong. "Turn away from the direction you want to go, then launch your sled with wrong foot forward" - ie Rasmussen steering. (if you want to launch from a stop and go right - do not turn right or your wrist will be rammed into the guard. Turn left and wrong foot forward it and you are golden)

Take a look at the first Schooled video if you don't get my meaning.
