a couple peolpe on dootalk are, check the XP mtn forum.......IMO, this is a huge mod for the hella hot POS TRA:beer;

My buddy found a fella who does the following mod shown in the pics. Adds a brass ring behind the Poo clutch to make it weigh close to the TRA.

I put one on my 08 XP last year but the alignment was way off and it seemed to vibrate alot more than the TRA so I didn't run it. I had the P-85 balanced also. I see guys are pulling the ring gear off the TRA and are getting better throttle response with no problems. Had the dealer align my clutches as they were out so I might try the P-85 again and see if the vibration goes away.Sure would be nice if Ski-doo would go to a Open face style clutch.

It will vibrate like a mo-fo! Adding a ring gear or something like shown in DaveB's post would be the way to go, it is 6 lbs lighter than a TRA w/ring gear. May also shorted crank life. I have run one, don't anymore....a properly setup TRA will work just as good without the hassle.

We have been running one this year and have been quite pleased with the results. A little more vibration that the doo clutch but not a lot adding a ring gear might help that some. We had a top notch machine shop do the taper and balance. Running a keyway secondary shaft so can run ac, poo or team. Running team with a 166 belt. Same belt all year. Very responsive! Holds rpm's! Hassles gone with flux rpms. Will continue to run this year and take off when we buy new sleds.

awsome fast replys! trying to decide wether to pick one up tommorow or not. was worried about the vibration issue. have heard that before. DaveB is your buddy at a sled shop in alberta? I'm also in alberta, looks like he did a good job!

I know Mountain Magic in Edmonton puts alot of Polaris Primary clutches on Skidoo engines. They swear by it. I personally have never done it.

Where is YamaDoo PolCat ??? (LOL)

You might want to find him on here and send a PM. He runs a Polaris style primary and can say enough good things about.

He actually runs Polar clutch.....modeled after the Cat hex clutch from the 1970's. Also known as the "grenade". ;)

damper

I used to run polaris clutches on all my ski doos, they were 670 based engines, we used to install a factory dampener off of a 617 engine on the flywheel side which took care of all the vibration. even on an 803 stroker. Don't know if one would fit an 800r

That was me! :beer;

I’m the fella that did the P-85 mod. I just can’t leave Chit alone!!

Used it in combination with the new style Team secondary. What an improvement!!
Installed on a 07 800R Summit. This was the result:
It does vibrate more than the TRA, even when re-balanced!
Went through 3! Yes three cranks last year!!
Dealer kept replacing with 07 cranks. I’m guessing that’s why they kept going out????
Never let the cranks actually blow just kept an eye on the crank run-out! Started well within the .0024 limit then they would all work out to .004, then -.005 and the last one went from .0008 to .007 run-out??
All seemed to last about 600-700 miles then I really noticed more vibration and a big loss in power!

Here’s the Kicker!! I put the TRA back on after the 3rd crank was installed. It made it about 700 miles then it turned out to be the worst of all! Yes it had less vibration initially but????
So I can’t confirm the P-85 did cause the cranks to go out!
I never let things go till failure so I don’t know if the bearings really went bad??? (Dealer replaced)
I really think the cranks didn’t have a tight enough press fit and were slipping causing the crank to get out of phase?? Just my guess! The set up I used really pulled hard and that motor has a lot of grunt when running good!!!

The 07 800R vibrates much more then the 800HO. I had one primary spring break that I believe was caused from that?
I ran another P-85 on my Wife’s 06 800HO Summit all last year with very good results.
This year, I‘ve been running a P-85 on my 05 800HO summit X 159 with SLP head and Thing Can with stock gearing and so far I really love it.
I’m using 10-64 weights, Black/Green (120-340) spring, Team secondary with 64/40 helix and (I think?) A Black/Red (155/222) spring. It’s all black but I believe that’s the one?
Runs awesome. R’s come up real fast. I can go from the parking lot at 4000ft to 6000ft and only loose a little over 100 RPM. Don’t need to adjust anything!!! I haven’t had it on the trail to see what top end is so can’t say?? Might blow belts at high speed???
There’s some clutch heat but not bad! Also using the 166 belt.

The extra weight was added for mass. Trying to simulate the total weight of the TRA. The TRA has the Rubber Dampener on the governor cup so the P-85 will never be as good in the vibration department on a Ski-doo as the TRA. (IMHO) I can’t say that the extra weight really helped anything because I never ran the P-85 without it??
