Anyone regret going longer ?

Right now I ride a 144" I weigh 265lb's and am going to have at least a 153" on my next sled. I'm going to consider a 162" but I don't want to regret it 80% of the season when it's not bottomless. Anyone regret going too long?

I went from a 136-144-155-153-162 no complaints yet.
I guess it depends on where and what type of riding you do.:beer;

Went from a 136 to a 144 to a 166...no regrets. I could have lost 75 lbs instead but that takes time and effort. I think you'd be happy with a 162.:beer;

I went from a 151 and then 4 years ago I went to a 159...didn't want to, but bought a used sled that had everything I wanted but the track. I tried, and now would never go back. I really don't notice it, even on hard pack. It may push more on the trails, but as far as climbing, even in set up snow, I like it a lot. I'm only 5'6" and 185# and I handle it just fine. My son went wiht a 162 KK last year and he says it's the best thing he ever did.

Go long, you won't regret it!

The only time I regreted my 174 was on hard pack spring snow. The rest of the year was great though. I had to buy a second sled to ride on the hard stuff (at least that's what I told my wife)

I ride a 155.
That is all the track I want or need. I don't climb and could care less if I am highmarked.
The 155 is as long as I would go if you ride tight trees, when the snow starts to set up at all it will push and not turn as tight as the 144.

I am 240lbs and haven't noticed a condition yet where I needed more, even in 4' of bottomless snow.

Things to consider i guess would be what type of snow you have most of the time (wet and heavy or powder). What track would you be going to, is it 2" or 2.5". Where do you ride and is there a lot of climbing involved. I only ride at about 210lbs but went from 2" 151 to a 2" 156 to the new 2.4" 155. I figure the 2.4" 155 is generally like having a 2" 162 for traction. What kinda sled will it be or do you have? Are the rails tipped up like a Polaris? The tipped rails make it easier to turn the long tracks. Just a couple things to think about. Or you could just add a crap load of power to make up for the shorter track. :beer;

I went from 121 last year to 151 this year... I think the 151 is a very versatile length, and even from the first day I barely noticed any difference in the turning radius:eek: Also, I find it easier to jump than a 166, but I only tried that for a little while. If you like climbing, a 166 is your track no doubt it pulls like a tractor, but the 151 is still respectable and a good intermediary from what I've seen:face-icon-small-coo

As Sulley said, the tipped up Polaris style rails are great for turning a loooong track! I love em:D

I have a 144 on my mod. At the end of last season I shredded my finger track and decided to replace it with Camoplast's Challenger Extreme 144 X 16 X 2.5. And ... Holy s#!t !!! It is awesome!! Unbeliveable flotation from it being 16" wide and huge bite from the sawtooth 2.5" paddle design. Its great on everything from trails to the steep 'n deep.

Anyways... I bought a new M8 162 this year and was thinking that it would be a huge upgrade in track performance. But it wasn't so impressive. My monster track on my 144 went everywhere that my new 162 went. I like my 144 better for banging around in the trees because it is shorter and if you do get stuck (god knows that we never do... or atleast admit to it anyway) there is a heck of alot less snow packed in your track.

I still won't give up my new sled for the sake of ride quality and handling, but I think that I might trade up to a M1000 153 and put the Como Extreme 16 X 2.5 on it. In my opinion, that track will outperform most longer tracks while staying small enough to get into the tight places.

Whatever you do, 16 X 2.5 is the way to go! In any length.

Later

16 wide wont fit on am M sled.

It is going to be preference.
I love to jump and boondock a lot... The newer sleds handle much better even with the longer tracks.
Before I bought my 153 M1000, I demoed a 162 m1000 for a full day in spring snow... Most of the time it handled great, but in the bumps and tight trees it pushed and would try to stick the nose at times.
Years past there were only a handful of bottomless days, so I wasn't too woried about having a shorter track.
This year the majority of the days were bottomless!
I still got around just fine and could come close to the marks of the 162s on the deep days.
I love to climb and do it all, but with my riding style, I much prfer a shorter track.

My dad ran a 162 with a '05 M7 based Cutler 1000. He's 5'5" and 160lbs. He hated it, even in the deep days it took a lot more out of him than a shorter track. He bought a '06 153 and put his motor in that. Never looked back since. He loves it and you can barely get him off it. He kinda wants to sell it and buy something new(M8 w/Turbo is what I'm trying to sell him on) but he just wants to build another M7 based 1000, maybe turbo'ed this time.

I really like his sled too. I kinda wouldn't mind owning it myself. It's short so it's still manueverable but it's got great power and lots of torque so the trackspeed is awesome. No matter what types of snow.

I should mention, I ride a 150" ride now. Had a 144" Rev, then a 159" XRS, this year a 154" XP and for my next sled, which will more than likely be a Nytro Turbo with a stock skid(altered) and hopefully a 156x2.5 I think that'd be perfect for myself and my type of riding. I'm 230lbs and prolly around 250 with all the gear and backpack on.

went from a 121" to a 144" to a 151" and i sometimes regretted going from my 144" to the 151".

I'll probably go with a 151 again this year or ill even settle with a 144...or heck maybe even a 136, who knows. :confused:

But, one thing is for sure, im not going longer than 155". Aint my cup of tea! :)

Ride safe!

Went from a 121 to a 136 and now have a 162, I was told that it wouldn't turn too well when boondockin but it kept up just fine with my buddies 153 as far as turning. Brother had a KK with a 162 and that thing would not turn to save its life but My M1000 doesn't seem to have any problem at all. And it high marks my buddies 153 just enough to where he has to hit everything at least 2 times, But he does have an M8 so thats part of it too. I hear the new ski don'ts are runnin a way smaller track and outclimbin the M1000 162's no problem?????? Buddy snowchecked one this spring...... I guess we'll see this winter, can't wait!!!!!!!!
