Anyone one else breaking clutch springs??

Should I pull the primary right out or just leave it in and try and take the cover off while it's all together still

The cover is easy to remove, the spring still has some preload on it when the cover bolts come out but it's relatively easy to press and hold the cover by hand. Make sure you take the primary bolt out first or the cover can get damaged trying to slide over it.

Be careful not to strip the cover bolts when re-installing, primary cover bolt torque is 100 in-lb (8.3 ft-lb) according to my 2012 Switchback Assault manual.

Regarding spring shims I got a set of 3 teflon like shims from Indydan shipped up here to Canada in regular mail just a few days - great service! I'll install them this weekend to hopefully prevent a broken spring issue.

broken primary spring

2012switchbackassault:There a way to tell if it's broken while ur riding?[/QUOTE]

If your sled moves before 3500rpm your spring is probably broke.
The problem is to work properly a coil spring needs to coil and uncoil as it compresses and decompresses. This is helped out by adding surfaces like shims to ad in rotation of the coil spring.
My spring broke at 81miles and the clutch was ingaging about 2000-2100rpm.
I didnt have my shims in yet, i thought i would get more then two rides
out of it.
I got them years ago and dont remember where i got them, but i see indydan has somthing like them so support those who love the sport.
Remember this will increase your ingagement alittle.
I also run a aftermarket adjustable clutch cover and the spring fits much
better in this which has to help.

i told my dealer that alot of these springs are breaking so he got me a back up already through warranty.Saw some wear on the original spring with 72 miles,so swapped out for the new one and installed these glide washers. Can't hurt to see if that does the trick plus only $15-$20...also have the blue/pink spring as a back up along with the original one.Can never have too many.
