Anyone made a stock skid couple?

After having a peak track on my assault last year I experienced a ski lift issue, on stock power. I have the skid out of my sled now and after looking at the ARC system skinz has, it seems one could pull off the same effect using an extra crossbar behind the rear scissor to limit travel. This wouldn't have the adjustability, but could still do the job. I know awesome systems exist, TS KMOD EZ... but looking to get a good performing skid for cheap!
Also brings up some questions
-Can the rear scissor handle the harsh contact with crossbar?
-Where to place a crossbar
-Any other major things I'm overlooking?

Hopefully someone has already tried this and has pictures.

I don't run / have a stock skid to look at but it is definitely doable, if it needs a bit of cushion and adjustability there are plenty of extra 10 coupling blocks / shafts kicking around. He!!, I'll dig thru my box of antiques and send you a few for the postage.

Working on this idea myself. Biggest challenge is I believe it will have to be dynamic, moving the coupling a bit through the arc. The length of the front and rear arm are different and the front is flatter than the rear.

If you set a simple block behind the rear scissor I fear you cannot start the coupling as early as you'll want or you'll bind the suspension before full travel.

The biggest concern for strength I have is for the tunnel wall. There is a reason the M-10 has been sold for 30 years with tunnel re-enforcement plates.

This is what the kmod skid I had was setup with. The rear arm just hits the quick adjuster, you can turn it for more or less coupling action, it worked well, think ucan buy it separate from kmod, Call Kevin, he can set u up or help u come up with something, good guy to deal with...

Timbersled also have this option, to upgrade your stock suspension with their rear arm, brackets for it and a shock.

Another way could be to incorporate control rods from a Yamaha Pro Action Plus suspension. Pretty light parts made for the job. Adjustability would require some creative thinking tho.

This is the kind of pondering that makes me love sleds. You can actually mess around with these kinds of things without a huge budget and if you do F...up it won't make a trainwreck on a highway...

Kmod

I can see the KMOD coupler being the ticket. Just need to do some measuring to figure the best location.

I'm sure it won't be anything close to a full-blown setup suspension, but if one could make their stock suspension close it would be sweet.

Skinz has the ARC, Adjustable Remote Coupling, for stock skids. Just another option to think about.

After checking out the Skniz ARC system at Haydays, I'd have one on my SBA in a heartbeat if they made one for it. Well thought out and quality throughout.

Have you guys looked at OVS wheelie control, it's for a cat but might be want you're looking for. Seen a turbo pro climb with it and seamed to work good

I'm also looking at more affordable coupling options for my new turbo sled and dealer thought OVS might be the ticket so called them but was told it wont work for some reason. They did say they were working on something for the Pro though.

Its essentially a copy of the Holz skid and Holz used to run that little mountain bike shock on the rear scissor for their hillclimbers many years ago. You might call them and see if they still have the parts, or the Kmod setup is nice too.

ovs

The OVS kit would be sweet if they made one for stock skid.

I too looked at the ARC while at haydays, but wasn't as impressed...to me having a cable hanging down thru suspension and an extra lever on the bars doesn't work.
Looking for some thing simple, strong and low price.

If it's an Assault have you tried just moving the skid to the RMK mounting point? Can't remember if you have to drill or not but many guys have done it, so I'm sure someone can tell ya

Had it in the 'assault' hole on last sled, but have tried both on the one prior. Moving the front of the skid up that inch would have helped, but will probably be looking for more wheelie control with my new sled.

Also looking for the better ride thru the whooped out trails that most have to deal with. Also I have to run this sled on trails quite a bit around home (cant have a rush and RMK ya know).

Maybe moving the whole skid frame back an inch in the tunnel would help. It would have to keep more weight on the front end...

I'm waiting for my new rails to show up, will put up some pics of my ideas when I get the parts in.

Great thread!! Interested to see if coupling would help from getting beat to piss on pounded out trails at the end of the day.

From what i have seen, coupling typically hurts the bump ride. For one customer looking for a smooth ride we did a Kmod with Raptors and left out the coupling blocks....it rode great.

Oh I'm sure it did. That's a top tier package I wish I could afford. Unfortunately I have other more pressing expenses this year.

I was just thinking of the old ZR sleds from back in what, 99,2000 where there were aftermarket coupling kits that helped with the ride. Thought it was like an oval machined hole in a chunk of aluminum the rear arm would slide back and forth.

8" wheels

Will help keep the front end down.
Ran em on a few different sleds and never saw any abnormal hyfax wear.
Rear scissor relocate back 5/8 works on these things just like on the iq sleds.
