Anyone in CO put The Fix in a D8 yet?

Actually he has three or four phazers. Great for his kids and riding early season instead of always complaining about the lack of snow!:face-icon-small-ton

Maybe...if you were married to Amber Holt ;) or...Your wife has better sense than you and and a need for 15 more HP? or.....Ok, I see, your little girl rides the D8. J/K, we do need more snow soon! Best of luck.

dfacey-thanks post back when you get some results. Skibreeze-I think you are 100% correct about it be a two-fold problem of piston/skirt issues and fuel mapping. I already have a pcv so I'm hoping "THE FIX" cures the piston/skirt issue. My 09 D8 still has one year of warrenty, so do I let it fail and try to get "The Fix" when they repair it. Or do I put the "The FIX" in now. I kinda beleive that once one fails on the top, no matter how good you think you have the bottom it is always a risk. I have seen a lot of cranks go after fixing the top. So do I protect the crank and do it now? or risk it. Maybe
just make sure the whole motor gets replaced and put "The Fix" in then? :face-icon-small-dis

Based on the failures we've seen, there's about an 80% chance that if the piston or cylinder skirt breaks, pieces will go through the bottom of the case. If that happens under warranty, you end up with a short block to fix it. If that happens out of warranty, it gets very difficult to fix the engine correctly for a price that makes it worth fixing. I believe the current Polaris price on a short block is about $4400 which is obviously tough to stomach for a sled that's worth $5500-$7000 depending on condition. Even if the failure happens at low RPM or you get the engine shut off quickly before it completely destroys the case, you will have some damage to the case and questions about the crank. Those situations can be dicey if the warranty company only wants to replace what's obviously damaged. If you have a failure, catastrophic would be preferred. That's a tough question about whether to do it now or later...how many miles on the sled now, how many since the update, and how long do you intend to own the sled?

dfacey-nice to get back on topic! got alot of jokers around here! The sled has about 1200 miles on it. About 500 on the new motor that replaced the one in the video. So I'm kinda thinking since it is still under warranty for another year. Ride the hell out of it and if it blows make sure it is catastrophic. Get a new short block and put The Fix in it or sell it.
But what if everything is still working great next year and the motor has 1500 miles on it without any damage and out of warranty. Would you put the fix in it then? I love the sled, but we drop into some pretty nasty stuff and if it blows then it could get ugly! :faint:

That's a tough call but I think I would pretty seriously consider doing it. Even if you sell the sled, the kit should add a little extra resale value. Having the warranty is good but the warranty doesn't pay for getting it out of a nasty spot or for all the riding time you lose getting it fixed. Maybe this season will be better but we saw short blocks on backorder for 4-6 weeks last winter which takes a big bite out of the prime riding time. It's relatively cheap insurance if it works.

Good food for thought!

Sorry ya'll, but what is "The Fix" we are talking about here? I'm guessing it is something more than the original update? What is the cost? Thanks!

Please don't take this as a brand bashing question... but WHY THE F would a motor cost $4400?? We can get 8 or 1000 cat motors for 2000 - 2500 or so, why does polaris charge SOO much more?

Another reason is that Polaris had so many warranty claims on them they had to make up for the ones they gave away. So now the people that have a D8 are sitting on a expensive time bomb. I wonder if a pro motor could be fitted in a dragon?
