I dropped my truck of @ the mechanic to get a tranny flush. I told them that i wanted Motorcraft Filter. He then told me they don't change the filters. they just hook it up to a machine that flushes all the fluid and cleans the lines, filter and everything else. he said in the newer vehicles, the filter is big enough were you don't need to change them. I told him that I have never heard of that! I wanted to bring it somewhere else but the guy is giving me some great business and I just started my own business. The truck is a 05 6.0PS Ford. what do you guys think?

I've had them tell me the same thing. Seems to be industry standard now. Good or bad? Beats me.

I called him back and let him know that I wanted my pan dropped and filtered changed. He's going to do it but, at an extra cost. He still said its not worth it, but I want to be sure not sorry.

Filter Change vs Flush

I can only address my experience, Had my wifes car flushed twice, noticed
the transmission started to have shift problems, took it to a shop, had the pan dropped expecting to find some major problem, what they found was a filter that was partially plugged, replaced it no further problems. I thing the flush is OK but after a certain time the filter needs to be replaced.

does the p-stroke tranny have any external filters or just the internal? i know the alli in my 8.1 has the usuall internal filter and an external filter that spins on just like a oil filter. reading on allisons website they say when servicing the alli the only filter you need to replace is the external spin on one and not to touch the internal one until its time for an overhaul.

i can see leaving the internal one alone in cases like the alli where its still getting extra filtration from the external, but if theres no other filters on the tranny i think i'd want to change the filter just for piece of mind.

Obviously change the filter(s). They are there for a reason, and for the price they are charging for the 10-17 quarts of oil that goes in the trans, i wouldn't even consider leaving the filters. If theres two filters, change them both. Most likely they are two different microns. There's two fuel filters on my truck, i dont just change one and leave the other. The torqueshift is a great trans, take care of er :)

i change the filter and just the oil thats in the pan. pull the pan and see all the **** in the bottom. you will be glad you did

Ya theres a internal and an external filter. I hate to tell a mechanic what to do when I'm not one, but in this case I knew I was right.

On the ford PS 6.0 with a tourque shift there are two filters. The filter in the pan is mainly a funnel looking thing that helps pick up the fluid looks much like a traditional filter but only has a fine screen in it to stop large particals from being sucked up. The filter to change is the external filter up near the front bumper on the passenger side. It is in an aluminum case with a hex nut to turn the whole thing off and inside is the filter. no need to drop the pan unless you want to see whats inside. Just drop the fluid and change that filter up in front. This is all I have done and so far so good. I think they call it a cartridge filter they look like a small roll of toilet paper.
