ABS Ortovox Avalanche backpack-free rider 24.

How is it and where do you put youre shovel and prove in this pack?

Just picked one up this month, haven't ridden with it yet. Shovel and probe are designed to be stored in the pack compartments. Pack is well made and you can't beat the ABS system.

Is there a designated spot for the shovel and probe in it or is it just loosely in there?

Personally your better off buy an abs base unit which can zip in different size packs, and if you want a more techy pack, look at evoc, dakine, ortovox, and a few others that zip in, when you get a one size pack, that size is never able to change, might work for you today but maybe not in the future...the zip in system is the best for using the pack in a number of different situations, like if you do an overnighter, do other sports like ski or snowboard etc...just something to think about...and it is also a cheaper way to go...

I've read a few statements and listened to a few sledders who would recommend getting a vest style pack. The weight is distrubuted over a wider area than just straps going over your shoulders. Just something to think about.
