Anyone have a recommendation for a spring tool?

Anyone have a recommendation for a magnetized spring tool for removing and installing exhaust springs for the 2013? I used to use ty-wire, but the 2013 seems to be some what difficult.
FYI to all the 2013 800 owners. Oil will leak out of your Y-pipe/exhaust pipe connection. Mine did, and I have not even started it yet. Obviously my dealer did.
Both my 2011's had the same issue. Permatex Ultra Copper fixed that.

spring tool

I have always made a spring tool out of a full piece of welding rod. Take a hammer and break the coating off a 1/8" piece of rod.(6013 is the kind I used.) Bend it to make a T handle and make the small J hook on the opposite end just like the ones you buy.

Now you can magnatize screwdrivers or any other shaft of metal with a regular speaker magnet. Get a big magnet from the backside of any speaker. I can't remember what side to use of the magnet but if you slide the tool from the handle to the end along the outside corner of the magnet it will give it a magnetic charge. You can also cancel the charge by sliding it on the corner on the opposite side.

Channel locks! However I have some busted knuckles from moving springs. I bought the one from SLP and it works. Not perfect but gets the job done. Nice T handle.

I have a Yamaha spring removal tool. A T handle tool that is shaped so you can pull or push springs. I've had since I had my mountain viper years back.

Yamaha part # is SMA-SPRNG-TO-OL, if you want to buy :face-icon-small-hap

Or you could just borrow mine :face-icon-small-coo

Absolutely the best I've used is the Motion-Pro Heavy Duty Exhaust Spring Puller.

You can get it through WPS or other sources online for about $15.00

Now that's the Cat's a$$
Good tip roni87. I have just the speaker, and it's older than anyone on this forum.:yo:
I have to say that the 2013 springs are the hardest I have ever had to reinstall. The lower one on the brake side is a bich:face-icon-small-fro:face-icon-small-fro:face-icon-small-fro

I thought about going out and buying a locking needle nose vise grips. Yes I know the knuckles scenario. There were some words said out loud last night that can't be mention here. Bleep. Bleep!

What's this Yamaha thing you speak of grasshopper?

What mountainhorse posted would be my second pick.

Still my #1 go-to tool for springs is a heavy duty boot lace, or small kernmantle rope (small climbing style rope)

Edit: havent so much as nicked any knuckles in years! :)

Harbor Freight makes one that is basically the same, for 1/2 the price and I've used it for years now.

This is what I bought today at the local Motorcycle dealer. With tax $18.00 out the door

Spring Thing

I have the Spring Thing tool. Available from High Performance Engineering. I think they are under $20. Super strong and they have a hook for pulling AND pushing a spring on. Haven't had bloody knuckles in years! They also have 2 different sizes. They are also strong enough to use on brake springs!

Here is a link to the page.

We all know we have a sh*tty Flat head screwdriver laying around...

Bust out the die grinder and cut a slot in the end... Works Mint!

This is the one: it's the same thing as the Yammi Spring tool, except the Yammi one has a blue handle :face-icon-small-coo

Have two in different lengths have worked for years no knuckle problems and it's still a screwdriver.
