Anyone ever own Holz billet alum spindles long enough for this to happen?

Had a BUNCH of play in my steering. Looked down to the see my spindles wobbling. thought it was the bushing inside.

LOL. NOPE.

I thought my bushing were going out where the ski mounts to the spindle...but pulled em off and found out how egged out they were. WOW.
Bought these Holz spindles in 2001.
I am lucky that I had my stock spindles. Dug em out and put em in and all the play in the my steering went away.

ha looks like the spindles that jrod try to give me

"o yeah just put some sleeve retainer on it you will be fine"

I've had a similar problem with the stock steel ones.

Mine on my '02 RMK from Holz are still tight. But I pound grease in to them 3 or 4 times a year.

Scott, it looks like you are on the no maintenance program. Those need lube all the time because the steel and aluminum do not like each other.

Funny thing is...Holz never designed a greese zerk for that. I took them apart to grease them and put them back in...but it's been a couple years.

They only have about 1600 miles on them.

We drill a hole and add grease fittings to the ones we have on our sleds. They have them that you don't have to thread just tap in. Works great.

Yeah add your own grease zerks. The tap in style or tap them for the treaded style. I have done that to a couple sets. Easy deal and much better than having to take them apart all the time to lube them.

Same here on my 02. Even with grease they get sloppy after time. This summer I may see if 1200psi can make me some bushings like astro did.

just find the write size ID metal pipe and have a local shop bore them to the od and you have a metal sleave repair kit. you could even have them to it to the new psi motor:eek:

Does Holz even make these anymore?

Nope, I called them today and they kind of laughed at me. The guy I talked to said any Holz spindle associated with trailing arms was discontinued. 1200psi is working on my old ones but they were worse than yours Scott. I hope Holz still makes trailing arms. I go through one of those every couple years.

The proper material to repair them with would be oil-lite bronze bushings. Should be an easy find from a bearing supplier. Likely need to fit them on a
lathe for exact OD and ID and make a couple sets so you can just replace down
the road when they wear out again.

Good Luck

I don't think they do... I bought one 2 years ago that they rumaged around on the shelf and found for me.

I've switched to Fabcraft when I need replacements.
