Anyone compare a 2010 M8 & 2010 D8 polaris?

Cant decide to get a cat M8 or a polaris D8? Rode poo my whole life but don't trust the poo 800 yet I love the ride of the IQ but I want reliable power.
Thanks guys.

The chassis handle similarly to me with the polaris seeming like the back end wanted to wash out too easily for me. If you get a D8 plan on getting the shocks rebuilt a few times or replacing them with floats. The Walker Evans blow seals worse than anything I have ever seen.

New M8 feels more powerful. Poo handles quicker. I think the M8 will be better in really deep snow. Poo had only 250 miles and its engine warning light was coming on. 162 and 163 models. I think the M8 is a better all around sled but I did like the Poo.

M8

I have a M1000, but I ride My wifes
8 when possilble. I think it is a great machine. With the problems with the polaris I would think hard. I rode them for years.

Last week rode 2010 M8 LE and 2010 Dragon 800. They are both awsome sleds for sure. The M8 seemed to have more power!!! Also a big thing for me is the m8 definatly rolled over better. Overall the M8 was far superior than the D8!! WE are not fox that is for sure!!!:D

I see your from Minnesota.... so do you want a fast sled? Or do you ride real steep and deep mountain terrain?
From what I have seen this year in real deep mountain snow, the D8s are still out climbing the 2010 M8s.
The D8s have some problems.... and I feel for the guys that have a lot of problems.

IMHO I think there is a very high percentage of D8s that run real good and have little to no problems.
The M8s have been lacking in power up to the 2010. However the M8s have proven to be very reliable in the past years.

thanks guys I am leaning toward the M8 but the dealer wants a little more than fot the D8 and I have all kinds of accessories for the d8 but I could always sell the to my friends!!!!

M8 no question

rode this weekend with my 2010 completely box stock HCR, i cant believe how much better mine ran than my buddies D8, he just got the new flash done last week, with the throttle sensor i believe and my 2009 M8 made him look rather silly. ya its not running right AGAIN!!!
I am bringing it to the shop for him tomorrow for the 5th reflash! POLARIS REALLY needs to get their S**T together there is no excuse for this.
After seeing what my buddy is going with his 2009 Assault and 2008 D8 I wouldnt touch a Polaris product period!!

no doubt ride a cat, you wont be disapointed with the 2010

I have a 08 snopro M8 and a 10 Assault 800 and I love both of these sleds. I do only have 40 miles so far on the Assault (lack of snow till yesterday, got a foot) but so far so good, but that M8 is still my favourite just for the ride and all around handling. The Assault still is in need of some fine tuning but it runs hard (8300 rpm) in the fresh snow.

In 05 i was in the market to by a new sled, But could not decide what brand to get. So i started hanging out at a local shop that was located just across the street from my work. In late 06 i purchased a m7. So for a year i kept tract of what sleds and problems they had. Also observed witch were easy to work on. This was my findings 75% polaris for anything from electrical to crank and top ends. 15% AC never once seen a crank issue, Seen a hand full of top ends due to high miles. 10% skidoo seen only two with with crank issues and high mile top ends. But seemed hard to work on and felt like they were bolted to the floor. I am now approaching 2000 mountain miles boondocking, climbing. Zero problems. I broke my m7 in far above and beyond what the book said. I wanted to post this a long time ago but didnt think you guys would care to read such along post.

I don't know if ol' Icecap or whatever has heard but 2010 M8 has the most horsepower in the 800 class and polaris is numero 3.

Heard or not he said " up to 2010 " horsepower was lacking .

I also have not seen a 2010 M 8 be all that impressive in the steep and deep .
Might be a fast sled on the flats though...

In deep powder ???

The dragon 8 is a joke on the mtn.
I rode with one 2 weeks ago, and asked the guy how he liked it. He said it's got 250 miles on it and running excellent. He said it was $1k less than the cat, and the dealer had promised that if it had engine problems that he would credit what he payed toward a different sled. All in all it was pretty hard for him to pass up on.
Once we got into the steep and deep, he was asking what my 10 cat had for mods he just assumed by the difference in how they ran I wasn't stock. I said it was box stock, and let him take it for a ride. He marked his drag8 by 30'. After riding all day, there wasn't 1 time that the drag8 put a highmark on the M8. In fact my buddy had an 05 edge chassis with an slp single/airbox and those 2 pol sleds were neck in neck all day.

I'm yet to be impressed by a d8. They run/handle ok, but boh new 2010 d8's in our group have been having issues since the day they bought them. They flash ecu codes all day long, which put the sled into limp mode...then they have to be shut off and restarted. Just an annoying issue to deal with. All in all, not a bad sled, but I have yet to see one that will hold a candle to the new m8s in the group...with same rider. etc..
