Anyone Break a Dragon Steering Post???

I am wondering with 6" taller handlebars on top of the stock riser, and a 250lb force on the steering post.... Should I track down wildchild and have a beefier one built? It looks like it is already bent a bit.

thanks.. justin

I just broke mine, 08 800 dragon. Broke just below the top mount. Sheered clean off with no warning. My bars are 2 inches higher than stock, didnt think that should have made that much difference.

Like this, at the top of a ridge 4 ridges back in the burn at Mccall. We took it to a little machine shop with a bottle of rum and had it welded in place the same day.

That is a friend of mine's sled and it definatly made me think I am going to get a post from Wildchild. On a positive note I pulled of a killer side hill getting to him!:face-icon-small-hap

Broke in same spot on our 07 D7. Weld has held for a few hundred miles now. I ordered 2 from Wildchild so if anyone is in a jam let me know as I will have a spare. The welds and fitment on the OEM posts are crap, guess that was something Poo couldn't mask with a gun full of black silicone. lol. EW

Broke the one on my dragon in the same place, I replaced it with oem at the time and now it's bent again. Same with the oladies 09 700 it's bent also guess I'll be calling wc :face-icon-small-hap

Yeah... I was looking at mine. I dont know if it was welded previously or what. It is almost like the tube on the top(t-tube) has a piece welded to it, and then slid over the post and welded again. It looks like factory finish on it though, not like someone went after it with shaker paint.

It seems the problem is bigger than I thought. I had not seen anyone complaining about the steering posts yet.

broke mine in the same spot a few weeks back... but that was after 5000 easy going trail riding miles... so i must have gotten an okay one

steering post

Just talked to a friend in southern Colorado who did the exact same thing.. Snapped off the steering post a coulpe weeks ago. He is the original owner of an 08 d8, never wrecked it, just snapped. Polaris must have the steering posts made in the same factory in Taiwan that they make their A Arms in.

I have a season on my wildchild steering post, one small tumble which layed the bars down on the tank. No bends or break. I'm running an 8" risor on mine. If you guys do go with a wildchild post, make sure the lower tab that bolts to the forward steering shaft is drilled to the right size, or the powder coating didn't plug the hole too much. I bolted mine in, then had to take it back out and redrill the hole. Not a big deal just a little time.

08 RMK,700cc. I didn't break my steering post, but it did bend a little. also the hoop bar (thats what i call it) also got bent. So I had to buy both the steering post and hoop bar. My thought is if you buy a strong steering post then you will bend the hoop bar more often, because it is the weaker of the two. I look at Wildchild post, but decided to go back to stock. The stock steering post is half the price of the stock hoop bar. If you just bend the steering post, its alot easer to replace than the hoop bar.
