Anyone blown out a rear shock?

I would sure hope that the custom shocks are good to go! You pay upwards of 2k or more for 4 shocks and springs custom built to your weight and riding style.
The whole point is WHY do we have to do this to a sled that costs upwards of 12k or more.:face-icon-small-con

I wouldn't say you HAVE to do it to a sled. I got 1,500 just fine miles out of the stock shock and now it needs some maintenance. I would have like that they lasted a bit longer, but I've had shocks on other recreational equip that didn't last as long and never saw nearly the abuse that my RTS sees.....so it's all relative.

Both front and rear track shocks failed within 200 km of eachother on my 12 pro, both made it just over 1 season! Serviced before this riding season as well. On the positive i bought esc from cornerstone and they replaced both shocks.

Factory shocks

Lets all remember Polaris is building sleds to make money and the shock contract goes to the lowest bidder (Usually) and those building the shocks will cut any cost corners that they don't think will effect performance. Also remember some riders are pushing these machines past what factories designes for. Also take into account there is hard riders out there in the 275-300lb range and there is no way the stock components will hold up to this abuse.

Case and point Motocross bikes now days have way better quality than our snowmobiles come with stock and expert/pro level riders rarely if every run stock components. And if they do its the tubes and bodies everything else is switched to better quality. Also they pay upwards of $1500- to who knows what for some fork work and one rear shock. (Recently ordered a Ohlins shock for a BMW that was 3k) If you want to see expensive product check out the moto market.

Most aftermarket truly custom shocks today are a bargain in the sled market. While not for everyone just remember you do get what you pay for in shocks these days.

Just my opinion of course.

Oh and for those not wanting a high quality shock there is some great spring combos out there to use on your stock POO shocks.

O-ring failure x 2. I see exits in my future

So do you know witch o-ring blew?

I noticed last night in the shop that my rear shock/spring (2012 pro rmk 155) seems a little soft and i am going to remove the rear suspension and rebuild my shocks tonight or tomorrow so i was just wondering what o-ring blew on yours.

Thanks

Well i just came in from doing my rear skid shocks, wow is all i can say, i have about 900 miles on sled and the shock oil was really bad, all milky!

New oil and recharge and went over suspension repacked all wheel bearings, i put two wheel kits on my sled, i was surprised at how bad some of the bearings where as well.

Anyway i am going to do the ifs shocks tomorrow.

I guess the point to this is if you haven't done your shocks after one year of riding it should be done.

im just saying!

I blew out all 4 shocks on my assault there's 2 snap rings inside that shattered. Have a set of raptors and a kmod now and love it

Thanks guys appreciate the input.

Anyone upgraded to the Holz WE's with the additional reservoir? Looks like not a bad deal? Is it worth the upgrade or does it ride the same and just have a cool lookin remote rez?

Had problems with my stock RTS tuning wise, would need spring tension adjustment between trail or in/out of mountain vs. climbing.

Talked to Curt at Ftx as I was ready to focus on something else than performance on my new -11 pro. He revalved 3 shocks but replaced my RTS with an Exit. The new shock has a beefier spring and a thicker rod, so it also displaces more oil while working.
