anybody wear danner boots when they ride?

just bit the bullet and bought a pair of danner pronghorn 1000g boots last night. pretty sweet, which they should be for almost 200 bucks. anyway, i wanted a good pair of warm boots for hunting, ice fishing, and of course snowmobiling.

the more that i look at these boots, the less i want to wear them riding. all i can think of is my no-sno running boards and the traction screws ripping the soles of these boots to shreds. they are really nice and im not sure if i want to wreck them.

anybody else wear them? how do they hold up to the abuse?

been wearing them for last 7 years. only for work though. have to work all winter long. pipeline service. got the ones you bought and the 600 grams. will be buying a new pair this year. the best boot around. not sure about sledding though?

from the sounds of it, they are definately an investment. my cousin has had a pair for 6 years now and no complaints. but, he wears some big pack boots when he rides. i just hate to ruin them.

I QUIT wearing my Klim boots...halfway through any ride I have to take them off and wring my socks out and pour the water out of my boots. WARM OR COLD weather. I HATE THEM!!!!!

I wear my Danner Pronghorns in warm weather and my lace-up Lacrosse with airbobs and I do MUCH better.

so, do you wear them in warm weather when you ride? or for hunting and stuff? how many grams of thinsulate are yours?

Just looking at the pictures, the pronghorn looks similar to the Sorel conquest boots that I wear. However, the sorels are only 400g thinsulate. Do you even have to wear socks with 1,000g???

I have the Danner Canadians. They have a little different sole than the Pronghorns, but after 3 years of riding with Snow Eliminator running boards, the soles still look brand new.

I wore my Cabelas 1000 Gram Outfitters boots for a while a few years back. They worked great except the hooks for the speed laces ripped all kinds of small holes in the back of my seat and also ripped the piping along the sides of the seat as well. I ride in the mountains so I spend a lot of time jumping from one side of the sled to the other, hence the tears.

I have been wearing danners for riding for 7 to 8 yrs. The first pair had the bob souls and ever on the old 97 rmk running boards with just the rail traction bars it toke all most all the bob off. Did not buy them again . The next pair had the big bob's with the vibrem edges, and they worked great alot tuffer. Until the new seds came out. I ride a 08 polaris 800 and there running boards eat up my souls in, I would say one mounth. [ not to mention they hold the snow] I was always trying too clean the boards off. So I put better boards on the 09 and my souls are in good condition going into this season. All my boots are 600 gram and i sweat to death in them, don't know about the 1000. hunting ya , riding I would cook. hope they work well for you. Oh one more thing don't get the hooks!!!!!! bad for seat covers. I also hunt and work in mine and I get two too three yrs. per pair. Ride between 1500 and 2000 miles each yr.

I have worn Danner Acadias riding. My toes got a little cold, but they were steel toe. I did this when my ankle was in need of surgery it was so floppy. The soles held up great. It seems that others that have used them for longer periods have no problems with the soles, but even if you did, you could always get them re-soled.

I'm a big danner fan. I think they make a great boot. You could always try them a few times, and just keep an eye on the soles. It they start to get chewed up, stop wearing them sledding, if they hold up, keep going.

It seems like no matter what, my feet get cold, so i figured what the hell, I will try these little boots I wear hunting. The 600 gram pronghorns seemed to do pretty good. My feet never got really cold and they seemed to stay dry. The running board does tear them up, but then again, if you are riding a current sled, any boot is gonna get torn up. Considering what sled boots cost, $200.00 seems average. After all, IMO sled boots are just hunting boots w/o camo

You should be just fine to wear them sledding.

My riding partner swears by wearing his Danner's sledding. His soles are not torn up, and he's got some really beefy cut-outs in his running boards.

He has never mentioned his feet getting wet, or cold either. He uses them for logging up in the mountains with me, sledding, and he goes hunting with em.

He's mentioned em to me before, but I just haven't because of the cost right now.

I'm just going to wear my new pair of HMK Highmarks' for sledding. I have some old crappy Air Force issued steel toes I wear for cold weather logging / hiking / etc.

I have a pair of Danner Ft Lewis and a pair of Acadias. The Ft Lewis boots are 17 years old and on their 4th set of soles, the Acadias are 11 years old and about to get their 3rd soles. The greatest thing about a high quality boot like a Danner is they have a sewn welt and can be resoled.

IMO they're not that good of a riding boot. To each his own but they lack the warmth and ankle support I prefer in a riding boot. Wear what works.

If you are going to wear boots with hooks, put a pair of gaiters on before your bibs, That will give you two layers of cushion before tearing the seat up. I have some columbia ice boots, that I really like, they have plastic hooks that point in, making it almost impossible for them to catch the seat cover.

what is a good boot with ankle support

After testing a pair during hunting season, I wore my Danners (600 gram I think) all last year sledding and they worked great, warm and DRY and less bulky than my insulated Shnees. I liked the insulated ones so much I got a pair of uninsulated pronghorns for warm weather and they took a little more time for break in but they also are nice. They're so light they feel like slippers next to my Whites smokejumpers.

I wear Kenetrek mountain extremes and love them, but they run about 400 a pair. On my 4 th pair I tried a 200 dollar pair of danners and they lasted about 6 months compared to 18 on the kenetreks.
