Anybody tried the INSANITY workout series?

I saw this the other day and was intrigued by it. I am not one to buy into the early morning infomercials and all that garbage they always try to sell you on, but I have to say I am thinking about giving this one a shot.

From what it says, you don't have to buy any equipment, just do it at home for 30-60 minutes per day and results sound pretty encouraging.

I am not one to go to the gym as I work construction all day long and I get in a fair bit of exercise but my biggest problem keeping me from getting into better shape is motivation... if I had something to help me there I think I would be good.

I have NEVER done any kind of formal workout or planned out diet program. I have lost weight in the past so I know I am capable of it, but I was thinking a little motivation would really help out. Right now I'm 238, having lost 10 lbs in the last 2 weeks and would really like to keep that momentum moving if not increase it. The last time I lost weight I got down from 268 to 204 at the lightest and managed to hold 215 for a couple years before slowly going back up to where I am now. I'd love to get anything south of 200 ideally.

Do any of you have any experience with this series?

Please don't derail this one guys, I'd like some positive feedback on this subject:beer;

Insanity

Two rounds of P90x, both rounds I droped 15 to 20 pounds. You will need to commit to the program and reduce your calorie intake, I swear by the program I followed and I am 50 years old.

I think the big help with this is you have someone or something to push you. When I work out alone or with people who are weaker than me I do less than if I have someone whose stronger than me and whose doing more than me

I have done Insanity, Insanity the Asylum, P90X, and am finishing P90X2 right now. Want to know why they work? NO GIMMICKS. It is just straight up hard work. Insanity is more of a Cardio/Strength program, but you will get in great shape if you can stick to the schedule. Go into it with a realistic attitude (be prepared to sweat and gasp for air) and as they say "keep pressing play". A great barometer that I like to use is to do a Beachbody workout at a Gym like Golds or LA Fitness. I did a p90X/insanity hybrid workout once at a Golds Gym and people were looking at me like I was crazy. If you want the infomercial before and after pictures you HAVE to adhere to the diet though. I eat really healthy, but I still enjoy the occasional pizza and beer day. I concentrated pretty hard on my diet in the beginning phases and did get the "ripped" look, but I was actually a little to light for my liking. I went from 238 to 180 lbs in about 6-9 months. I consider my optimal weight for the things I like to do to be around 195 plus or minus a few lbs. I don't really get too caught up looking at the scale any more. Good luck. As you can see, I am pretty passionate about fitness, it has definitely changed my life for the better. I have PAP Upper today, which is a workout from P90x2...pretty hard stuff. I actually made a little home gym in my garage to work out in. I have numerous friends come over, it helps you stay motivated. I have the basics, pull up bar, some dumbbells, stability and med balls, jump ropes, and a flat screen tv with a DVD player built in so I can play my workouts. I got some padded floor tiles as well. Oh, the workouts really help when I ride that red thing in the mirror too!

Simple answer....Yes i've done it, and Yes it works. In my former days I was a D1 middle distance runner (not a shrimply distance runner:face-icon-small-ton) and was put through some BRUTAL workouts. After I was done running I got lazy and out of shape and thought the workouts would be a cakewalk. I got sucked into an infomercial as well and bought the Insanity program off off Amazon to save a few bucks. I got my arse handed to me the first three weeks until I got my legs under me. I had to take breaks, I felt like I was going to barf, I was sore as hell, and some days i didnt want to get out of bed. Plain and simple, if you're willing to put the work in, not skip workouts, and watch your diet you will see redonkulous results. Think I paid around $100 for it online. Great way to do workouts under your own conditions and not have to pay gym fees and battle for workout space. Go for it-

Wow, Awesome feedback guys, I really appreciate it. I know from past experience that once that excess baggage is gone your energy level goes through the roof compared to before, I just want to hedge my bets this round and go all-in.

I don't have any realistic expectations of ending up with the ripped look they try to sell you on, but anything besides what I have been looking at in the miror would be a welcome change, lol.:face-icon-small-blu

I was in great shape through HS, played FB and ran mid distance. In college I lifted and worked out daily but never had a good program that i followed, i raced sno-x and moto-x alot during college so the combination kept me pretty fit. Once i graduated college, got a desk job and had kids I never put on weight but got really soft and didnt have that toned body any longer. I started for a company with a on site gym about 9 months ago. I started a 5 day a week workout that i found on-line that did strength mon, wed, and fri and then cardio and abs tue and thur. After 5 months of this program i increased my strength and saw good results for muscel growth but didnt tone up like i wanted. So i started 90X about 4 months ago and stuck to it. I now feel the 5 months i did that other program were a waste of time, I lost 10 lbs after the fist month and then gained about 5 the 2nd and 3rd month. I basically burned off all my fat that first month and start putting on more muscle the 2nd and 3rd. Im now 162 lbs and 6% body fat. I never really changed my diet, i eat the same food just not as much.

right now im hittin the gym im 190 and 6% body fat. ive been considerig p90x, and how far i can push myself. a workout partner is key but if you dont have one, a nice set of headphones and some blood pumpin, endorphine flowing music is all the motivation you'll need durring your workout.

my new boss is gonna let me borrow his P90X program.

we should have a motivation thread and do before amd after pics to see who is the most motivated with these programs....

At least for me, once I'm working out I'm motivated. Its the starting work out process that requires the motivation for me.

I had a roommate that was a little nuts about fitness, and it was awesome. We had a pullup bar in the garage, and pushed eachother every day (with some break/recovery days). Best motivator for me was/is someone else thats serious about health, just feeling strong and energetic, and of course the noticable increase in attention from the ladies. I struggle to keep weight on, 6'4" and have been as light as 158. But when I work out consistently I usually am more like 175 and feel awesome, sledding becomes so much easier too.

Wish I had a gym like aebsledder's in my garage! That looks awesome

I can relate to the gym part 100 percent. That was kind of what I was getting at when I was making the comment about doing the beachbody workouts at the gym. For the hell of it do the Legs and Back routine from p90x at the gym one day. Bring a watch and do it exactly like you would in the video. The looks you get are priceless. If you are feeling good and want to take it to the next level...try Asylum. Are there harder workouts out there? Maybe, but not many! Be warned however, you will be a beat up mofo at the end of it. Give yourself a 1-2 week recovery after you do the program and do some light cardio and yoga/stretching. Then go do something physically demanding in the real world. Run a 10K, do a long backpacking trip, wrestle an alligator, etc. You will be utterly amazed at what you are capable of. If I could take a punch I was seriously thinking about trying an amateur MMA or boxing match. Then I came to my senses and realized that weights, jump ropes, and pull up bars don't hit back.:face-icon-small-hap

My wife and I stuck to P90X for a month before we let life get in the way (moving, kid, work, excuses, ect) and in the first month I saw some significant gains. When I started I could do about half a pullup, and by day 30 I was doing 8-10.

Now that we've moved into our new house I want to start doing it again as soon as we are settled.

Never done it.

thought about it, but truth be told I don't need the diet and I have good work outs. Just watching tv and drinking beer after the kids are in bed is much easier to do. Though I'm starting to notice a lack of definition in the abs and especially the lower part of the 6er is getting roundish after meal time.

If you want awesome results do this.

Go to the gym find a young hotty jump on the machine behind her and keep telling yourself you can have her if u can catch her. then go like hell. that is called motivation in the rawest form

Well I got the package yesterday and opened it up tonight and did the "Fit Test" as a baseline to track my progress... If the rest of the series is as good as the test dvd is I think it will work out good... it is definitely challenging, but seems promising! So far I have figured out that my overall strength for doing the exercises is good, but flexibility and endurance aren't very good. I look forward to improving on those areas as I progress.:D

Thanks for the great comments so far on this topic!:beer;

haha or go to the gym with your girlfriend and put on an amount of weight on the bench that will push you then start doing reps with her spotting you. It will force you to actually go 110% b/c you don't wanna look like a dumb@rse infront of her and need her help and because your not sure if she actually can/will help you either :face-icon-small-win.
I did that once. I definitely could feel that for awhile
