Anybody tried MDS weights yet?

Got the call that Steve at MDS has weights in stock for the pros and wondering if anybody has any experience with them yet.

I've got a '12 800 163 and I'm very satisfied with the sled as is, but can't help but look for more. Coming off an 09 M8 153 with SLP pipe/can, this thing already does things I never would have done on the cat. Not sure if it's the extra track length or what, but this thing rocks! I definitely don't feel like I lost anything in the power department compared to the M8.

I got the mds weights for my M8 and they really improved that sled, but I never adjusted to get the most out of them. It was never as snappy as my new pro is out of the box, but they pulled hard. I know there's the money back guarantee, but would still like some real world experience with them on the pro before making the purchase.

Somebody has to have some feedback on them.

pro test rides

I have them on and have 2 days testing, my results are going to be a little different than yours because I am also running a PA head 13.1, they do pull really hard, I am set up at 63.5 base with 4 grams in the tip and pulling 8250 in around 10-12" of fluff on top of 12" firmer setup snow at 6000'. The only issue I'm having is a little higher engagement on the bottom than I would like, about 4650rpm. I am now going to start playing around with a softer spring and maybe going to the 2.5 gram hex head screws with no washer in both holes and see if this cures the engagement and helps keep engaement on descents. I might have to change up some things in the secondary. I have heard none of this is necessary with a stock set up but the PA head is adding way more performance than expected, now just have to harness it. I am fully pleased with the MDS ramps, just need to dial it in a bit. I have the benefit of living close to Steve and able to stop in and talk shop, these are gonna be killer and I don't mind being the lab rat, haha. Let me know how things go, I'd be interested to know how they work for you on the pro

Thank you so much for the report. Are you running the stock exhaust with the PA head? Do you need to shim for the MDS weights? I am looking at a similar setup for my sled and it sounds like you are having some luck. Looking forward to more ride reports.

Stock y-pipe and and pipe with HPS can, awesome sound and plenty of uuuuummmmpppfffff. All head, can just completes it, makes it sound like it should when it's doing what it's doing, haha. My brother rides an E-TEC and it pulls great but sounds like a prius, and that just ain't right. I have not shimmed anything, havn't seen a need to. I do have 1 delrin washer in the secondary, and tomorrow I'm on the hunt for a Black/Green 120/340 from the ol poo days, a good friend of mine that knows clutching forward and back thinks it a good place to start, Steve from MDS agreed, so the hunt begins.

Will be playing with the MDS's soon :face-icon-small-win

One thing I've noticed on other adjustable weights is that adding tip weight will tend to raise the engagement since the tip sits past the center of the pin....so moving to mid and lessing tip might bring your engagement down as well. Guessing the MDS's will act similarly.

paw, running the same setup as you except i am going to try a balck purple in the secondary tommorrow to see if i can gain just a bit more performance other than that i really love these weights, the pull hard

Let me know what ya think of that setup, that thought crossed my mind.

Flat out RIPS

Hey guys, for those with or following the MDS weights they flat rip. As most know I'm running the PA head 13.1 and have been playing with this setup with the MDS weights, I went to a blk/green spring(120/340) in the primary and now get engagement around 4050-4100 vs the 4650 i had with stock spring. A friend of mine is running the MDS weights with stock engine, he also switched to a blk/grn and really liked that better. And yet another friend with a PA head and 70 gram polaris weights custom ground to 64gr(heavy in the heal) is running stock spring. We put all sleds against each other yesterday in about 10" of fluff on top of a firm base( could still track spin and trench right through the base). we were about 5750' and on a hill that we could all pull. The stock sled, MDS weights and 120/340 spring would jump out a couple sled lengths against the the sled with PA head and polaris weights that were ground, the power of the head would kick in and run the stock sled down on the climb and pull past it, but not bad for the stock sled with just MDS weights and no head. My sled with the PA head and MDS weights would be beat off the line by the other two by less than 2 lengths then stay even through the climb. But I had 15lbs of gear on my tunnel and I am 100lbs heavier than the other two riders with gear on, so I'm pretty impressed with that, works for me. We will try to do some more even testing here in the next week but wanted to post what we saw yesterday for now. The real plus with these I see is that when you want the power it is there, they just flat pull and keep pulling, makes tight tree riding in the deep fun, they get you up on the snow in an instant without a lot of trenching and you can get off and back on in a climb and its right there. Way to go steve. Looking to hear from anyone changing up the secondary a bit for some better backshift.
