anybody own a Silverado?

I have an 08 with a duramax. If you dont tow every day i would go with the half ton. I pull every day as a contractor and if i did not i wouldnt own the big heavy fuel eating monster. The half ton will be cheaper on fuel, maintanance and the purchase price. just my .02

I have a 2009 GMC Sierra SLT with LMM duramax. I rarely tow trailers and it's my daily driver. I love how nice the interior is and the power is very nice. Unloaded i get around 17-18 mpg on the highway(which is very close to a 1/2 ton) and 9-12 pulling my 29' inline trailer down the interstate. This is my 3rd Duramax truck and everytime i go to trade i get most of the added cost of the duramax/allison right back. Once you bite off the initial upgrade, it's not that big of a deal IMHO

maybe I will think about LBZ duramax or 6.0 liter gasser with 6 speed

I really think the 6.0 is a love/hate relationship. Some will defend it to the death and many will tell you that the mileage is so bad it's not worth having the truck. I'm a big time GM guy but I would rather have a older Duramax in a classic style body than a new body style with the 6.0. I'm sure it's very functional and will tow what you need but don't be pissed when you get 7.0 mpg.

The 6.2 is available in the 1500 now. It is not available in the 2500/3500 trucks. MileHigh can tell you more but I believe it has to do with the torque curve of that motor.

6.2 are most in suburban, but no truck? I looked on internet

I posted links earlier with links to specs with the 6.2

If you get a Denali sierra it will have the 6.2 with awd (no low range). 1/2 Ton of course. You can get a non Denali with the 6.2 as an option with a 4x4 and transfer case.

The 6.2 pulls great but GM doesn't recommend it as a workhorse tow rig. Fine for a weekend warrior.

6.0 is an iron block with larger cooling system. 5.3l, 6.2 and 4.8 for that matter are all aluminum with exception to 2x4 models which for some reason are iron in the 5.3.

You can get a 2500 with the 6.0 and 4.10 gears still.

On a Chevy I think you can only get the 6.2 with the LTZ. On gmc you can get it on and SLE.

If you want to pull a trailer from Iowa to wyoming get a duramax, if you want a hot rod silverado let me know I will fix you up.

when I bought my 11 denali(9600 tow capacity)..you could get a chev LTZ with the 6.2 and a HD tow package which gives you 3/4 ton axles and over 10000 tow capacity..mine with a 6.2 does fine pulling as far as fuel economy..as long as you can keep your right foot under control...nothing gets great fuel economy if you can only drive at 70+ ...

I just drove my LMM duramax 175 miles on the intestate with a tail wind no trailer. I got 14.2 mpg. I have no idea how anyone can claim 18 mpg. I calculated it myself. Just saying, the diesel IS NOT easy on fuel, so dont go bust your budget thinking it will make up for things in fuel savings.

I pull a 22' open with my 09 1500 crew cab with no issues. Make several trips out west a year. It has the 5.3 with the 6 speed tyranny. Fully loaded its still under the tow rating of the truck.

I'm not claiming something crazy but if you are only getting 14.2 on the interstate with no load something is wrong. My LML will easily get 18mpg (no load, no hills, 65-70mph). I don't claim that you buy a diesel for fuel savings. towing will save you a bit but I think you buy a diesel for the ability of the truck.

6.2l have aluminum block, and not the best for towing. I wouldn't like it, i prefer solid blocks.

I have three silverado's, 1985, 2002, and 2006.

I would have to say from being in many silverado's, the 2006 i own is the most fun because it has the duramax engine. By far the best purchase i have made.

i would recommend the 2006 or 2007 classic. They have the 6 speed allison transmission. and get way better mileage then the newer duramax's.
