Anybody have their steering post snap off from normal riding?

was riding yesterday and just as I pull up on the bars and shift my weight for a wheely the steering post snaps on me. Right under the top bushing, about four inches from the top maybe. Sled has never been rolled, only flipped over to get unstuck. So I was shocked that it would snap just like that. Has anybody else had this happen on a raw IQ? I know people have bent them, but never heard of it snapping from everyday riding. Dealer got it warrantied but the sled will be down for a week now cause of it. And I have guys interested in buying it. Stupid thing could cost me the sale of the sled. So I'm wondering, is this normal? Or is my sled just cursed? :face-icon-small-dis

Yep, I've gone through two sets on my D7. Not made well and Polaris hasn't made the change yet. One set happened when I hit a rock (really hard). The 2nd set was from wear and tear, but Polaris covered it under warranty ($50 ded). Easy to change out, but you need to pull the motor which is a pain in the arse. The steering connection is under the motor.

Mines busted too. Same spot as you.
I didnt even try to get it warrentied but maybe i should now.

On my 2nd post. You ride hard and they will beak. I think it's a poor design. I wish someone would come out with a chromolypost.

Well at least I'm not the only one then. This is pretty pathetic if you ask me. I'm sure wildchild on here can build a stronger one... But I have warranty, so I won't be spending anything into an aftermarket one.

Has anyone tried to weld it. Our 07 D7 broke at the post but had about 5" of pipe insert. I cleaned up the break, covered everything with welding blankets and kept a wet sponge moving around. It welded up good, think it will last? EW

It might. Never delt with this before on an IQ. On my gen two my bars were 9 inches above stock and the post flexed way to much, did lots of reading up on here about guys welding inserts into them and what not. Some held, and some just snapped off lower then. I ended up with one from wildchild on SW here. Good post.

I snapped mine off last year on a 08 d8. had the guys at Bear Lodge in the Big Horns weld it up. I put another 80-100 miles on it. Didn't trust it so I put post in from Kurt aka wildchild on here. It is alot stronger, takes a bit to put in though, I didn't pull the motor, lifted and turned a little and was good to go. 200 miles on the new one and works great. Kurt is a great to deal with also.

I broke my edge post in two different spots, two different times. Welded them up and rode it. I just put in a Wildchild chomoly after Christmas. I figured I got extremely lucky twice, I wasn't going to chance it a third time.
