we have one in our group. over the last few years we've noticed that anytime we see a moose on the way up to go riding someones sled ends up breaking down before the day is out, so now if we do see one we just expect something to go wrong. this past weekend was no exception, on the way up to the hills we were talkin away and we got to talking about this little superstition. no more than five minutes later out of the corner of my eye i spot a moose standing in the river then one of the guys we ride with spotted it to so we were all thinking great now something bads gonna happen. then we meet up with a few of our buddies at the parking lot and while unloading one of the guys sleds we notice that one of the hoses on his remote resevoir shocks was broke off and all the oil was gone. well we figured ok, thats not to bad if this is the only thing that goes wrong. so we got to heading down the trail and about a mile down the trail i look in front of me and what do i see but another moose running down the trail in front of me. so now all the bad feelings come back but we figure ahh its just a superstition, we was wrong. well we get about 45 minutes into our ride and one of my pals sled starts running like crap but after some tinkering with it we decided it had water in the carbs and we drain them and it started running again. so then we were thinking the curse was about done by now but nope, about another half hour i see my brother with his hood up so i go over there to see whats going on and this time it was bad. for some reason unknown to us both of his cylinders cracked and broke along the back side down where they bolt to the case. they were broke from one side to the other right at the base where the cylinder meets up with the flat spot the bolts go threw. so we towed it a little ways to one of our play spots and the rest of us continued to ride for a few hours just screwing around that area. then when we all headed out and we got to the trucks we noticed one of our buddys and his dad was missing so we waited about ten minutes figuring they were just screwing around or made a pit stop or something but when they didnt show up we were getting ready to send the ones who had enough gas back to see where they were but just then they come pulling up towing my buddies dads rev back. it turned out that a little ways up the trail the doo exploded the crank case, and i mean exploded, when we went over there they pulled out a plastic bag and in it was a big handfull of aluminum chunks some where a couple inches big. sorry for the loooong story but i just thought this was a hell of a day and it is just more crap to back up our little superstition. d** mooses!!!

Absolutly, nobody is allowed to say anything relating to injuries or mechanical failures before or during a ride...especially my dad. One time we were out in the UP and my dad said "dang we've been here for two days with four sleds running and not one mechanical problem yet." 10 minutes later, my cousin broke the rod on his front shock. Not bent, broke it off and these were sno pro race shocks and we were just playing on a little pile behind the gas station.

I normally don't consider myself a supersticious person, but when its riding time I'm extremely supersticious.

Flat tires. Any time we have had a flat tire on the trailer it has turned out to be a crappy day. Broken sleds, guys throwing up on the side of the trail,(usually hangover induced) if I see a flat tire when I go outside to go sledding. I just turn around and go home.

i will always put on left boot first and right boot second. Always put in left contact lens first and right lens second. Always like to do a major dump before heading out.

Always like to listen to Coast to Coast broadcasting about extra-terrestrials at night before heading out the next morning.

OK gotta go...................Coast to Coast is on NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, our group has to have a good laugh at the parking lot posers before each ride.

same with the dont mention any mechanical failures or wrecks. My dad was doing that just before we went to togwotee around christmas. He was joking around that someones crank was gonna go and then we'd probably have to head back early. Well to make a long story short we were on our second day and my brother was highmarking and his crank decided it was gonna go. We did have to head back early also.

so no more speaking of incidents like that before we go out.

I can't listen to U2's "Beautiful Day" on the morning before I go riding....if I do, something bad always happens.

it seems to me that the more stuck we get the truck on the way up the mountain that the more likely theres going to be 4 feet of snow and sunshine.
