Anybody else have their bulkhead crack with out having hit anything?

Well i got the sled stripped down to the bulkhead today. Left the motor in for now but other than that its pretty much all off. Crack is worse than i had thought. Took some more pics for my dealer and he talked to polaris. They want us to get it welded and they will foot the bill. So its better than nothing. I was expecting them to not want to do a thing. So anyway ill have my uncle take a look at it and see what he can do with it.

Another boo-boo for a Poo-Poo to keep an eye on???

Of course I'd expect Kinzers sled to look like that. Extreme mileage and usage.

Steering posts, ECM's and VR's, Mapping, Pistons, Shocks...Bulkheads??

I've seen 2 RAW's with this, thought it might be a fluke. Both of them have grandpa trail riders. Is there a trend?

Or are carbides grabbing during the loading process?

glad polaris stepped up and is willing to at least pay the welding bill...
Yeah me too. i wasn't expecting much from them on this. so this is better than nothing.

man i hope this isn't a trend. my sled has 2000 miles. not enough for this kind of damage. i have had my carbides hook a few times. but not so bad that i would think it could warrant this... but i'm starting to think, dont once expect your polaris to make it through more than a month without some warranty claim. mine anyway cant stay out of my dealers shop for more than a month at a time. my dealer rules! my sled sucks.

Well i got it welded yesterday, And put it back together today. the welding could look nicer than it does, but They added some gussets to it and it Looks like it should be pretty strong now. Ill get some pics of what they did after im back from knee surgery.

AKSNOW is right if there is room put in some gussets do it, it would only make it stronger!

welding aluminum makes the material weaker, being that its cracked and being fixed by welding a gusset would be OK but it also could transfer the stress to a different area which could crack other areas.

Make sure your shocks are up to par. Shocks going solid or crashing thru can make for the same type of failure without "hitting anything."

Yeah ill post pics so you can see what they did. I cant see it transfering stress to places that could crack. But ill let you see once i can get pics up. Yeah my shocks are fine. Nothing wrong there. But im thinking ill have them rebuilt anyway seeing as they have 2000 miles on them. Have a wee bit of oil seeping out the shaft seals.

Alright, so here's a few pics of what they did.

The gussets, they welded the cracks, then welded this over top, both sides.

Turn your head sideways for this one, the aluminum with the rivet there is the pipe heat shield, so you know what angle your looking at it from.

had some cracking here as well. Both sides.

This is the pto side, where the two layers sit on top of each other right under the shock tower.

Back together again. :)
