I installed an aftermarket can because of the excessive heat the oem one put off under the hood. Now i have burned my side panel from rolling the sled over when stuck probably on it side to long but the pantywaist side panel pushed in against the can and burned a hole in it. Even on the clutch side i have a rub spot from the primary probably from doing powder turns and snow pushing in on the side panel. Has anybody else had this issue and if so what have you done to fix problem.

Can you put a stiffiner in there, kind of like the one that came in the clutch side of the 440 revs.

i got the white marks all over from small impacts. the blue is good for that though

If you could find some UHMW plastic about 1/16 to 1/8 " thick would be very easy to glue in a wear piece where the clutch can rub. I will do this with the TNT I am longtracking for my wife. The glue to use is 3M Super Weatherstrip adhesive.

On the other side for the can you need to get some good heat insulation tape for the inside of the panel. Good place to find some good stuff would be Jeg's Auto Parts catalog or Summit Racing or www.aircraftspruce.com.

Very simple fixes for your problems compared to the clutches.

Good Luck

My exhaust side panel has a hamburger pattie looking thing on it, all bubbly and lumpy - for the same reason, put sled on it's side when exhaust suit case was so hot. Oh well, I didn't by the thing to look pretty!

Let's face it, they are built very light. One of the reason the XP is the lightest sled on the snow. If you spend any time upside down or on your sides from agressive riding you are going to get the little white stress marks on your side panels and get the clutch rubbing on the inside as well. I have had the clutch tear off a few of the little nubs on the inside where the bottom of the panel attached as well. As far as burning the side panel on your silencer I have not seen this but it sure sounds like it could happen. New side panels are only a little over $100 per side assuming you don't want all the stock stickers and foam.

Well thanks for all the advice i will try the heat gun on the white stress marks i know that the side panels are not to expensive but i have vent kits installed and dont really want to have to keep taking them off and reinstalling them if i dont have to. I know i will have to do it at least once because of the hole in the pipe side cover, i have to fix that looks like crap. I will try to find some of the thicker plastic like lrd talked about that would definitely help on the clutch side, have to invent something on the other side like a stiff heat shield that could be riveted to the can with about a 1" airgap between pipe and shield who knows.

A hairdryer will also work on the white stress marks...I have also seen guys not installing the can proper and it popping out of the exhaust hole and melting the side panel...assuming not the case but something to watch...yes these sleds are build extremely light and do not seem to take the pounding the others can

On the clutch side many guys are taking the black plastic cover off the belt guard and then the panel can hit the secondary. I just drilled some nice 1" holes to let the heat out of the plastic shield instead of tossing it. If you are talking about the primary hitting, good luck it is gonna wear a hole in it if you really push the panel into it.

Also put some heat tape anywhere inside the panel where it could push in and touch the exhaust. May just give you the extra 20-45 seconds you need next time to roll it over and not have the panel melt.

I had the same problem on the M series so don't think this is a doo isolated problem. The hood on an M series can push in on a roll over or side stuck and sit on the pipe stinger. The hood costs a he** of a lot more on one of those than a doo sidepanel.

The stainless steel that goes on truck rocker panels sticks really well and is easy to cut with good scissors.

xp side panel plastic is light weight, different blend of plastic and melts quicker then the plastic from the 03.5 to 07 revs
