Any Saab experts here or general mechanic?

Got a 2000 9-3 SE with a 2.0 turbo. The thing starts fine when the engine is cold but after being driven in the heat for awhile and you turn it off, it won't start again until you let it cool for 1/2hr or so. Done this twice now, engine runs fine when it does run. No blurps or hicups. Is it the fuel pump possibly?

im thinking it would cut out going down the road or not start at all if the fuel pump was going out.sounds like some electrical sensor to me.but im guessing:)

The best help I can give you from here & I hope it helps!

Vehicle Application: 2000 Saab 9-3 SE 2.0L 2002 Saab 9-3 SE 2.0L

Customer Concern: Only starts cold, when hot it wont start.
Tests/Procedures: 1. Check for spark and fuel injector pulse when the vehicle dies. If no spark or injector pulse, test for a AC signal out of the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor.

2. Between pins 1 and 2, replace if below 800mv.

3. If there is injector pulse but no spark, proceed with diagnosis for the ignition cassette.

Ignition Discharge Module testing:

1. Verify that the spark plugs are correct (NGK BKR 7ES-11), properly gapped and in good condition.

2. Check the continuity of the wires from the Ignition Discharge Modules (IDM):

A. Pin 4 (Yellow/Blue) on ignition discharge module 1 (rear bank). Combustion detection cylinders 1, 2, and 3. To Trionic pin 53.

B. Pin 4 (Yellow/Black) on ignition discharge module 2 (front bank). Combustion detection cylinders 4, 5, and 6. To Trionic pin 54.

3. Check for reference voltage on each of the above wires with the IDM module connected and ignition on. It should be about 9.7 volts, and each of the wires should show a square-wave pulse, using a lab scope while cranking the engine.

4. The IDMs can be swapped between cylinder banks to see if the problem follows the IDM unit.

Off this sheet 2 repairs needed crank sensors & 1 needed Ignition Cassette for repair. Ya have a better starting point than most start with.

I had an Audi 5000 that did the exact same thing. I had it to every dealer in the country for a year an a half with no results. Finally while looking it over while it wouldn't start, I burned my hand on the ignition module, I changed it and drove it 250,000 miles with no more trouble. I'm betting you are right on Gainster. I sure wished I could have found a mechanic like you back in those days.
