Any Navy Snowesters? looking for advice

I had been working towards an enlistment with the army, however circumstances are changing for the MOS (job) that i was considering, I am now exploring the Navy and all it has to offer. I am 23 years old, recent graduate from Washington State University with my Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. I am looking for a job that is more of a boots on the ground position, I have talked slightly with a recruiter about different opportunities in a drug task force, or pirate interception. I was wondering if anyone knew of a route to get me to where i want to go, or any other rates that may interest me, all advice or contacts are appreciated. thank you KamW

IMO I'd stay away from the armed forces as all you are is a pawn to our BIG governments whims. Friend of mine just got back from his 4th sniper deployment and can't seem to get the help he needs for his PTSD. As far as I'm concerned our government treats the men in uniform like SH*t. This is just what I've seen from multiple people. Good luck with your search

Yes skidoorulz I do realize that the navy spends most of its time in the ocean. I was just speaking as a whole, our government doesn't take care of their personnel after they "F" them up!! PTSD mite be BS but I've seen too many friends come back changed forever & not a good change.

You have to know that active combat deployment messes with you.

You are fighting someone else's battle and those people don't like you and in some cases try to kill you. So you have the enemy and the "friendlies" trying to hurt you.

You see young men and women getting their heads blown off or limbs blown off while driving down a road.

More often than not you find yourself surviving in squaller worse than that of the people you are protecting, and for what. Their gratitude??

You miss out on your wife giving birth to your first kid.

You left your loving wife at home and now you are alone.

My uncle fought in Vietnam and was the only survivor of his platoon. He saw them all die, even his commander. You can't pop a balloon in his prescence without sending him into some sort of mental breakdown. The song TAPS messes him up. Back then there wasn't a name for it. Now they call it PTSD. It's real, very real.

As a current Senior Drill Sergeant in the army reserves, with both a CONUS MOB and OCONUS deployment....beleive about 1/3 of what any reqruiter tells you

if you want BOG in the navy become a corpsman....they get embedded with ground units form all the branches of service

you do know the ARMY has boats and planes too right?

being deployed (or even mob'ed) sucks...your away from everyone you know except your unit...living in some building or tent that makes motel 6 look ritzy......but, in my experiance it was worth it
combat sucks, and it effects everyone differently
if your a joe...its why the hell did our leadership do that?
if your a leader.... its why the hell did that happen and how do we avoid it in the future?

for what its worth...even though I just got back last summer, I have volenteered for the next wave of missions in the 'stan

Have you looked into the Air Force and Marines too? I have been AF for 17 yrs and it has treated me pretty well. Think long and hard about what you are willing to sacrifice to get what you want because you will be committed to it for at least 4 yrs. You stated that you have a degree so that may open up the officer ranks to you also, you went to school so you might as well put it to some use. Take everything the recruiter says with a grain of salt, they are just trying to meet their quota for the month. If you get the chance, talk to people that can tell you how it really is. It isn't like the stuff in the recruiting videos or on TV. Best of luck on your decision.

Just curious, if I wanted to go military for my last 4 years of pharmacy school(I'd to army since they have the rotc program here), would I be an officer or would I be in a hospital doing what my schooling taught me?

Also, if I tried to join after school(which I don't think makes sense because I'd like my school paid for) would I still be able to become an officer?

I am not exactly sure how the Army works, you might want to talk to a recruiter and see what they have to say. I know that there are different programs for schooling in the AF and the Army maybe the same. You should also ask them about the post 9-11 GI Bill, you might be able to pay off student loans with it.
