Any Land Surveyors or Civil Engineers here?

I'm in the Land industry but as you may well know, it's dead in Colorado. I'm looking to relocate and I have heard that Utah is booming better than most.

I'm looking for a few tips or some info on where I may look or be able to find some work. I have a family and we have had nothing but nearly 12months of crappy luck, other than my preemie son growing into a healthy boy. I need some sort of idea as I am running out of them and I have wore out my google button doing searches.

My experience is in Land Surveying (the gamut, including construction) Civil Drafting and some calcs, Project Management and crew supervision. That is the short version.

Thanks a whole bunch,:beer;:beer;

Got a friend named Ryan Taylor that works for Epic Engineering in Heber, no number for him but you can tell him Scott Graves told you to call and see if he can help.

Best of luck to you.

I'm in Western Oregon and work for a large timber company. It is real slow here as well. Can't say I would see much in the way of improvements for a CE here as contractors are tripping over each other looking for work.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the tip. I sent a resume and references to Dan Knowlden @ Epic yesterday.

Hey PJ. I have worked the Civil Engineering field for the past 5 years here in Utah. Im studying to be a Civil Engineer and have been working as a draftsmen for a while. I worked for a decent sized firm in the Ogden area for about 3 years but about a year and a half ago they let me go due to the lack of work we had. From what I have heard they have cut down to about half the size since I left. I think that trend is consistent around the state. The last two companies I listed are ones that I worked for , and are both in the Ogden area. The rest are companies in SLC.

But it seems like most these places are always looking for a good surveyor cause they tend to be hard to find. Here are some companies I have dealt with that you can try. Diamond Land & Global Laser Scanning & Land Surveying in SLC (801) 266-5099, J-U-B Engineers (801) 886-9052, Ensign Engineering (801) 255-0529, Benchmark Engineering & Land Surveying (801) 542-7192, Pinnacle Engineering and Land Surveying (801) 866-0676, Reeve & Associates Consulting Engineers & Land Surveyor (801) 621-3100.

Good Luck

I have an interview with Meridian Engineering in Salt Lake at 9am Monday. Anybody know them and have some inside info?

If all pans out and I get an offer I will need some help finding a CHEAP BUT DECENT place to rent. My family will be staying back in Colorado and I'll be coming home on weekends but most of my paycheck will be going home to pay for my normal bills. All I need is a room with an internet connection so I can visit with my sons via webcam. Thanks for the well wishes.

Just got in from SL City. WOW, what a long drive on Hwy 40!

Does anyone in Utah know who the Rockies, Broncos and the Avalanche are? I asked several peeps the scores of the games and nobody knew, I had to look it up on the Net.

I sure like that city, very nice but hard to drive in.

Nope, never heard of those names. Just the Denver Roller Dolls. J/K:eek:

How was the interview? Optimistic???

Here are a couple that I work with everyday:

Ensign engineering: (801) 255-0529 Civil engineer
McNeil engineering: (801) 255-7700 Structural engineer
Focus survey and engineering: (801) 676-0384
Stantec: (801) 261-0090 Civil engineer and survey

I dont know if any of them are hiring but its worth a phone call.

So I received the job offer today. I need to find somebody who has a room that I can rent for cheap as my paycheck will be going back home to the wife and kids.

We have a house here and my wife has a good job with awesome health insurance. We cannot afford to move the entire family until our house sells and she can find a job that brings her very close to what she has now.

If anybody can help or knows somebody that can please PM me and I will give you my number. The job will be a 4 day work week, allowing me to drive home Thursdays after work to see my family and head back to SL City Sunday afternoon. I am pretty experienced in remodeling and stuff so I could trade for a place. I would be happy with a nice room and a wireless connection so I could visit with my kiddos via webcam. Any help that I can get until things get a little better I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Thanks a bunch.:D:D

Congrats on the new job PJ!

Does this means you will be getting out of Kremtucy? If so what area will you be trying to relocate too?

No, family is staying behind in our home. We will look at things come summertime.

The job is down in Jordan off of exit 193 from I-15, I believe.
