Any Electriatians, Hot tub salesman or enthusiets here?

So I have a hot tub in my yard, and have several hotties coming over this weekend. I want the tub working.

In the summer we drain it as hot water and hot weather is not the greatest. But I went and filled it up and flipped the circuit breakers like always, and nothing happened.

I opened the main fuse box for the house and tested the fuse there. It has power. So I went out to the outside box and tested the power there. Again I have power. Open up the cover for the circuit board of the tub and test the power were it comes in. There is power here as well. But the tub wont turn on.

It is a "Tiger River Spas" and the model is "Bengal". Is there usually a hidden reset button or something on the tub? We had this problem once last winter but my father fixed it.(Unfortunately he is in Alaska and I cant get a hold of him)

Any help i can get would be great.

Try this. Owners manual

There are different model years on their website but I'll bet most of them have the same general wiring.

My uncle had one in his backyard and had all kinds of trouble with it electrical wise, was always replacing limit switches or the GFI box or relays or some dam thing. But it provided for a lot of happy days for him, then all of a sudden he has a girlfriend and the next thing you know.... The hot tub is gone!!!!

Thump the pump motor with the butt end of a hammer

Yea, I'd start pokin around inside.... Is there a display that normally illuminates, but isn't?

Does the display and buttons appear to work, but the pump doesnt run?

Error codes on display?

The thingamajig isn't working in sequence with the whatchamacallit.

check the gfic protection in the electronic board (there might be one there)
next check your water sensor(usually threaded into on of the pipes) it might sit in an air bubble and think there is no water.
next, check your heater it might be shorting due to failed insulation and tripping the gfci.

Yup. The control panel lights up when we flip the circuit breaker on. But nothing is happening.

I went through the service manual that was posted up top. I will give the retailer a call tomorrow, to see if they can give me any specifics.

Does it have any phase monitoring systems? Did you recently have a bad storm? How good was the voltage when you checked it? Fuses ohmed good? Ill bet its control wiring :) but id first look at a phase monitor, PVR of some sort, they are sensitive enough that lightening will knock them out and most of your controls run through a PVR. Also check all of your control fuses if you have any.

Has not been powered since April. The one fuse in it is still good. The rest of what you said went right over my head. Im just gonna call the place we bought it from tomorrow.

Well im pretty sure the hottub has to have some sort of starter. The coil goes out pretty easily on starters. You just have to trouble shoot, its a chain reaction. Control wiring trouble shooting can leave you in the dark pretty quick, but just work your way back. Throw power to it and see exactly what voltage you have across each phase. Who knows, could be bad at the service and nothing could be wrong with your hottub :) So dont go buying any parts just yet for it.

I still think the brushes in the motor are oxidized from all the moisture and not making contact.

Check the blower, unplug it and see if the spa will run. Does it have an ozonator, unplug it and see if the spa will run. If an ozonator gets water in it, it will shut things down. Check the fuse in the control panel. Pull the plug out of the pump bowl until it runs water, you can get air trapped and the pump will not run. Some spas have a deadman type safety and will not run if the door to the pumps and panel is not closed.
