Any challenging terrain near Sandpoint, ID

A buddy of mine and our families are staying near Sandpoint, ID after Xmas and we were curious about good backcountry riding areas close to town. I have ridden lots at Priest Lake but never closer to Sandpoint. Would we make the drive or is good riding available near Sandpoint. Not looking for trails. Wife and kids will stay at home.

Oh YEAH! I think it has some of the best riding in ALL of north Idaho. It really depends on what type of backcountry riding your looking for.

Trestle Creek (East of Sandpoint) - Great tree riding.
Pack River (North of Sandpoint) - Great climbing
Roman Nose (Farther North of Sandpoint - Great climbing and tree riding.

Chime into the "other forum" in the Spokane/North Idaho thread, someone will take you up to any of those areas! They love to show outsiders the area.
