i changed the timing in my assault
didnt see much of a difference!! wasnt worth the time and effort of changing it
keep it stock
how much higher compression?? and whats elevation are you?
i ran a par head 12.5 with timing changed into it on sea level
and had no issues with DET
this year itll be run with a pipe added to it and pcv , leaning the sled down
You wouldn't want to advance the timing to prevent detonation, that would have the opposite effect, retarding the timing would counteract too high of compression or too low of octane.
800bb, been my experience that the more alt, the more timing they like. If you get it to rattle the plugs lose you have gone too far, will be too hot in mid range
im running the same key in my sled at sea level with no issues
what mods are you running besides the high compression
13.5 to 1...2300-4000 ft...2.5 degree timing key advance...im wondering if i should get rid of the key.
Tested alot of these scenerios at low and high elevation with the Vi-pec (changed the timing all over the map) . I would reduce the timing to stock at low elevation and increase it above 6000ft elevation. Doing these steps will help you drastically especially up high.
Exactly, to fix oil leak at plug bases, reduce timing, add more octane or enlarge stinger or exhaust outlet. Or wait until the cylinder pressure relief is self-installed into the piston.![]()
