Any 2 stroke TPI 250 or 300 builds out there?

That is incorrect. The gears are the same 2011-2021.

The owners manuals and the parts fiche show a different gear for 2nd between XC and XC-W. 16/25 for XC and 16/26 for XC-W.

IMO the XC should have the SX gearbox with a 6th added. That would be a nice improvement.
I think not , All the XC/TX are different than XCW /TE gears have been different form the first 300 thru 2019, The xcw and TE300 have a granny 1 st gear and a big gap between 2 nd and 3rd, Its been the downside on all the dirt bike builds and why we concentrate on the TX and XC models due to better gearing.If they changed anything is has to be in the new20/ 2021 models

I meant the XC gears have been the same 2011 to 2021. The XC-W gears have been the same 2011-2021

THE TPIs DO NOT HAVE DIFFERENT TRANSMISSION GEAR RATIOS. I looked at the 2020 fiche and 2021 manuals.
 
Oh , Thats what i thought. The gap on the XCW and TE is horrible,1 st is useless in the dirt and snow on the TE and XCW.
 
Will you keep the jacket straight on the pipe like that ? Don't think it will melt ? Also do you have a plate to go between pipe and engine to keep snow from coming in the front ? Looking good otherwise !

On the inside I always run a protective strip of an extreme high heat material, I’ve done a few sets for KX and melting was not an issue but until we get some test time on them we are not positive. My hunch is at most wrapping the pipe under the blanket will be adequate.

I have no plans to cover the front as all of us here run a basically oversized skid plate up front, without it you can’t keep your feet on the pegs on those deep days. Mine was a kids snow slider I got at the hardware store and to bolt on to the skid plate.

The bike was a friends summer bike only but I have a couple sets out to guys who are going to try them with and without heat guards.

TX/XC 1st 31/15 = 2.067
TX 2nd 25/16 = 1.563

TE/XC-W 1st 32/14 = 2.285
TE 2nd 26/16 = 1.625

On dirt I kinda like the low 1st, but just wish the gaps were tighter. I have an 18 250 XC-W as my single track dirt bike and 19 Husky FX450 for a snowbike.

For snow, the tight spread is much better and I prefer it on dirt as well. Low 1st isn't very useful on snow. Maybe when you load it in the truck.
 
Hum mm, I went back and checked three different oem parts sites and again found that for the 2020 300 tpi xc vs 2020 300 tpi xc-w trannys have the same part numbers for all gears except 1st. Input shafts with fixed 1st gears and 1st idlers are different numbers. 2-6 all same numbers??
 
Must be an error the parts sites. Also the part numbers are only one digit different.

I went to rocky mountain ATV and XC 2nd shows:


79333412000idler gear 2 nd.

XC-W 2nd shows


79333312000idler gear 2 nd.
 
Glennrmk, your right. I looked at those numbers three times and missed the 4 in the middle three times! Guess I need to increase power of my readers?. I feel cross eyed looking at those numbers. One of the sites added a 0 in the middle to most of the numbers so now I'm really confused and gave up looking.

So, 1st and 2nd different. I like the tranny on my 500 exc including the low first. Only gap I notice is 5th to 6th. Would the 300 xcw tpi be similar? I would look at part numbers but I got a headache thinking about it?
 
No worries, just wanted to make sure people didn't think it changed. I wish they would change and make a tighter spread. Or at least make 1-5 closer and leave sixth. Even for dirt, the spread is a little wide IMO. Way too wide for snow.

You can't compare the 500 and 300. Totally different power delivery. I think the 500 gearing is perfect for dirt, but I little wide for snow. That engine has a lot of torque and pulls it pretty well though.

The 300 is tractor off idle but doesn't have anywhere near the mid range torque of the 500.

For snow, on a 300, your going to want to have it tapped a lot. The easiest way to keep the RPM up is having the gears close. On my 2011 300 XC, I thought the spread could of been tighter. I had to gear down and run a 12T CS sprocket.

The 300 runs pretty similar to the 450 as long as you ride it aggressively. Lots more clutch and shifting. Riding a 300 in the snow is kinda like a 125 on an MX track. Its fun, but a 450 or 500 is easier. If you like the 500 on snow, you might not like the 300. Totally different riding style required.
 
Yeah, not sure I can give up that easy to ride torque of the 500. Probably won't start next build till end of this or next season. Hopefully get opportunity to ride a 300 cause I would like to try 2s. But, that new ktm 500 sounds interesting too.
After riding the yamifx, the tranny on the 500 is a dream. I only notice the gap between 5-6 on trail at higher elevations. Too bad no 450 sx or xcf with 6 speed.

My first snowbike was a 510 husky with close six speed. That spoiled me.
 
Anyone else out there had good luck with the TPI?

I could fool the temp sensor into telling the ECU its warm. 160 seems way to hot on a two stroke. 100-130 should be ideal.

Any other issues?
