Another year, another let down...

nut up and buy the 800...

if you worried about saving money on fuel each ride, your in the wrong sport...this sport is expensive period. you live in ak, where the mtns are big and open and there is no roads...you will need the extra ponies in a 800 sometimes just to get up and over something to keep moving.

you also said you rather dig your sled out all day instead of jump...another reason to buy an 800 over a 600 you won't get stuck getting through things becasue of the extra power the 800 has over the 600.

i got a day ruined by riding with a bunch of guys on 600 sleds...they just couldn't get out of the bunny area's to keep going to the good stuf..

just food for thought...not trying to bash with the nut up comment...

IS THIS ROB?

:face-icon-small-coo the one and only. Idk anyone in Montana though...

Spiced, what I was on the fence about as well. Might be rolling a rental this year until I figure out what kind of riding I will be doing the most of, can't see spending 10k then hating myself for a "why didn't I get"

I dont think you should be worried about track length so much a 155 would do you good. The main difference is the chassis changes, i think those are what is making the biggest difference. I went from a 97 polaris with a 144 to a 155 dragon and it is not even compareable you will be amazed at how different they feel and how easier they are to ride. Unless your that tight i would go ahead and get an 800, ive never heard anyone say "I wish i had less power"

Price jumps from 10.8 to 12.2 to get an 800 over a 600. So $1400. And that's if you find a dealer willing to actually sell at MSRP, typically they charge over MSRP :unamused:

I don't know what fuel runs in domesticated America, but AK it's running $4.25 ish in the winter, and $6 if I run across the boarder on a trip. Not like you buy a sled for fuel efficiency, but a factor in my mind none the less.

Your dealers suck if they are charging MSRP or more. Three of the four dealers I called are all under MSRP.

True, may need to ride a 155" and see how it does with my riding style...They claim "flickable" all over the place on the pro 155" and my biggest concern was maneuvering between trees with a 155.

I still prefer the 144 even in 100% mountain riding.

You can always get the 155, then trade with someone who has a 144 (swap tunnel 1/2's, rails & track) there's always some sucker thinking the 155 is hugely better... or that it'll be even better on the trails...:face-icon-small-ton

Did you call dealers up here?

At backcountry- lol, I sort of feel that way too, but until I see some white stuff depress down the mountains, not really going to worry. I should be responsible and pay off some stuff before getting a sled, but if this winter is anything like the last, I may cave :face-icon-small-ton

Be interesting to see the difference in the chassis, the last new sled I was on was a Summit xp and I didn't really like it. Do have to say the mountain max I rode in the UP that started my obsession with riding, is the baseline I have on a new sled.

The sad thing was going over to the rental places website and seeing this http://alaskatoyrental.com/rates entire let down :face-icon-small-fro

Greenspeed:
I have a 2012 Pro RMK 800 155" and came from a 2010 Ski Doo 800 146". I actually feel the RMK is easier to manuever, and I like the trees as well. I rode both in the same area. I don't think you would be disappointed with a 155.

I would pick an 800 over a 600 for all reasons except $. Even with the 800 there are many times I wish I had more power. If you are able to scrap up the extra $ I would vote that you would be happy after the purchase. Obviously renting one (or finding a dealer that will let you demo one??) would be a smart move. Just my $.02

Kinda what I have been thinking, I will need to go second hand anyways so it'll be what I can find when time comes, when I started this whole thread I really wasn't aware the 155" were maneuvering like the 144"'s of yester year

(btw I grew up in Antioch, IL just north of you on rt 59)

greenspeed, let me know when you start looking for a pro..I am most likely going to sell my 11 this fall..but mine is a 163..going off the sleds you have listed..i bet you will like a 163 better for here...

Could always rent it to me :face-icon-small-coo

Green speed I was in the same boat last year I wanted a 144 that I could abuse, boondocks and jump and wanted 144 cause the skid is a tad stronger with shorter rails, had a etec 146 lined up switched last min to a pro 155 all I can say is I'm super happy that I went 155 vs the 144, just easy thru the trees but trust me you will love that extra track when you need it

That's pretty much what I have been getting from everyone else. I think I am going to be going that direction when it comes time.

I actually just got word today that I was accepted into my masters program so I'm headed back to school and may need to postpone something until I figured out how busy I will be.

No chit!
I grew up in Grayslake.

Good ole Gayslake.

Used to be a good place till round lake showed up :face-icon-small-ton

I feel that with this being as new as it was, I'd start a new post inside this thread and not exactly start a new thread...:boxing:

I'm seriously considering picking something up for the time being, and since most of what I was looking for in a sled I mentioned before in this thread.

Wondering what's a better sled to go with in the sub $5000 range.

Basically it's between two sleds, Either getting a 05-07 Rev Summit or a 08+ RMK any thoughts?

I'm leaning towards spending a little more and getting an RMK just because I have a vendetta with carbs

Whats the major difference between the 144 RMK and the 155 PRO RMK they both list Pro suspension in front, but I think the 155 has Pro rear and 144 has IQ style rear. Also does 155 have belt drive over chain 144? Also I see a 35 lb. weight loss on the 155 vs. 144. Guessing what I just listed is the weight saving. So to me an 800 with more ponies and 35 lbs. less vs. a 600 heavier, less ponies is a no brainer. Are the Assaults all Pro also? I'm interested in these Pro sleds also coming from Doo. And to the OP, why not, when you can scrape up the cash, buy the 155 for the reasons listed, and if you really want a 144, cut down your lighter Pro skid and install a 144, can't be all that hard and best of both worlds.

Get a 05 or 06 M7 that little sled spanks my Dragon and i picked one up for 2900 ported and polished its a damn fun tree sled! Hands down the best riding/for the cost sled out there! And its Bullet Proof! And Get a CE track! Just my .03 cents!
