another spark plug thread-ever heard of these?

so anyone hear of the Pulstar pulse plug? they have a fancy advertisement in popular mechanics and i was wondering if anyone has used these and what they think of them. what's your opinion on these in general? gimmick? and most importantly, if they work, do they make them for sleds?

I have not used them. But, it does not make a whole lot of sense. A capacitor charges and then is triggered to discharge when voltage drops below charge voltage.... but a spark plug recieves only bursts of voltage so what are you charging with? I guess the residual from the coil burst, but then you are just taking energy from the spark. I don't see any advantage from an elecrtical point of view. Then again I am not an electrical engineer either. Would make more sense untilised in a different fashion...... Any electrical engineers in here that can make sense of these things? Looks better to me to put on a capacitive discharge ignition so your coil is always firing at full power than these plugs but thats just my $.02....
 
Gimmik. I have not tested them on a dyno but have read on other forums where my friends have. Problem with them is the flash they brag about. It is so short of a time which can allow fuels not to totally react at the time of combustion. I have heard that intake scavage may be result from unburnt fuel in some swirl designs. Their resistor and capacitor built into the plug, in my eyes is just more components to go wrong.
If you want better spark, buy a better coil

hmm, I'd think you want the current and voltage in phase.... a cap will throw that off.

Also, yeah.... caps charge with DC.... no DC on that wire...
