Another King Cat question

When I am out riding and I come to a stop, my machine stays idling high. I have to give it a little throttle for it to come back down to normal idling range. Does anybody have any idea what it could be? My carbs need cleaning maybe?

idle

try dropping the idle ever so slightly and see how that works for you i have a few machines that do the same thing on certain days and just changing the base rpm helps out. changes the way the machine comes off the different circuits on the carb, i'm sure this is the problem just drop it down a few rpm's. WHAT IS THE RPM AND WHAT CHANGE IN ELEVATION DO YOU RIDE

The idle is set at about 1.5. I have tried adjusting the screw up and down. It just takes awhile for the rpms to come back down when I stop. We ride from about 9000ft- 10000ft.

If it just started doing this over the last couple rides and you haven't adjusted anything I would check two things.

The carb boots between the carb and the cylinder. Then the crank seals.

Start the sled, take some starting fluid and spray just a bit around the crank seals and the carb boots. If you get an increase in R's you have found your problem.

My guess is a cracked carb boot.

this was discussed in another thread on here, the flatside carbs get worn and can cause the high idle issue.

worn slides

Install new slides. You can tell if they are worn by excessive carb rattling at an idle.

where are the crank seals?

Right behind the primary clutch. With it the sled at idle spray the starting fluid behind the primary towards the crank shaft. The other seal is behind the flywheel on the Mag side. Kind of tough to check that one. A leak down test works better. This is a pain to do also without the right tools and knowledge.

As for the slides on the carbs. yep they can wear and cause a high idle. But this happens after a good length of time. If your high idle has started over the last ride or three or four. I would expect something else.

But who knows.

Let us know what you find.
