Another Fatality

:brokenheart:Sad very sad!:brokenheart:

6:00pm last night Me and a buddy were headed out from the top bowl and found a sled pointed up idling in a 30' deep ravine. We saw the head light from a distance and circled around the riven and stopped to see what was going on. We called out a few times with no answer or movement at the sled. We looked around in the dark where the track was going at the ravine and could see one other track circling at the top of the ravine and thought the rider of the sled had climbed up to the other sled and rode out with that rider.

15 minutes later as we rolled into the parking lot we stopped two guys on there way out to the trail head and asked if they were headed up to the sled to dig it out. Danny asked me if I could take him to the sled ASAP. Thats when it hit, Danny and I raced up the 4 miles to the sled. Danny rode his sled right down to Johns' sled and immediately yell out "He's here!.... Help!". We found John folded upside down almost under the skid. We yanked him out and Danny checked for any sign of life, John had passed 2 plus hours ago and was very cold. We knelled there for two or three minutes to gather our thoughts and say a few words. Danny jumped on his sled and peeled out of there to get phone reception to call Search & Rescue. Help was on the way quick!

John Meyers was pronounced dead at 8:10pm Dec. 26th and was carried out quickly by Search & Rescue. As we recovered his sled from the ravine and were met by a posse of his friends to help any way they could.

John had been riding with a friend and the friends young son at around 1:00pm in low light and pour visibility because of snow and they lost track of John at 1:30-2:00 and started to really worry after numerous searches around the area and down to the truck looking for John. The friend called Danny and told him he was running out of day light fast and needed help finding John. Danny was up the canyon and hitting the trial as fast as he could. Thats when we bumped into them and knew where the missing sled was, but had not seen any rider and raced to the ravine.

It looked like John had wheelied at high speed into the ravine and folded off the side of the sled at impact. He most likely got knocked out by the impact with the side of the sled and the ground as there was no sign of struggle. Likely did not regain consciousness and was gone within minutes of the accident. An autopsy will confirm for sure.

:brokenheart:Sad sad day for sure! My prayers go out to his family. GOD BLESS...:brokenheart:

Oh man, SO sad. I ache for the family and friends of this sledder.
It makes me sick to think what a sad and trajic time this is for all who knew him.

I just talked to AC and got the firsthand on this and now I am even sadder and more emotional about this. This hits close too close to home, and it makes me wonder what i would do if something like this happened to something I know and love. AC is my brother and I can't imagine how i would feel if this happened to him or me or one of my friends. I'd be devastated.

It sounds like it was just a freak accident and that goes to show you how fragile we really are, and how fast things can hit the fan.
You can't live your life paranoid tho, but you need to be smart and safe if you can.
Please be careful. And prayers to John's family.

Ac & Mad your good eggs and fun to ride with. This definitely sounds like a accident. I talked to Micha at fast track this morning and got the terrible details. I am sorry for the Meyers family

I know ACMtncat did the very best he could, tim is a guy you want in your corner when riding, so sorry to all involved

im speachless. r.i.p. john. tim, hang in there brother, i cant imagine how you must feel but all my thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

This is beyond sorrow. My thoughts and prayers go out to John, his family and friends at this incredibly sad time.
