Well guys I have been plagued with the Broken Primary clutch issue. The Primary broke right in half as you can see in the pics.
Thank God it just spun on itself and not hit anything else like my secondary or motor. It took three trips back 15 miles in Whittier, AK in big country to get it out. First rescue mission attempt was an epic fail. We rode in double(Bro in law in pic) in on my Dragon and a friend on his Pro.
We tried to pull off the stuck sheave with a 11" puller, that didn't work at all, even with heat.
Then we decided to cut it off piece by piece. We didn't really come prepared for that. All we had was a dewalt drill with a cut off wheel and two batteries. We drained those right when got the hardened steel shaft.
So we decided I would run back to the town of Whittier and try to get charged batteries. Well unfortunately my Dragon(Wife's Sled) decided to crap a piston on the way there. Not sure how it did this, it has a PCV and it only did this on the mag piston. Looks to me like a lean condition.
But let me tell you I was impressed that it made it out of there on One Piston! This is big country and lots of mountains to climb with a sled that was one lungin' it! But it made it!
So tried again, but got weathered out, so we didn't make it back to it.
Third attempt was successful with a 2500 watt Generator strapped to my buddy's Pro, and doubling on my other friend's Pro with my Father in law with 50lbs of tools strapped to it's back.
I was able to cut off the remaining clutch off with a cut off wheel on an angle grinder. Clean up the crank shaft and slap a new clutch on it and ride it out.
Here it is riding out on its own power.
So I haven't taken to the dealer yet cause I had to go to work, but I know it was a manufacturer defect and I hope to get a new crank too due to the nicks and burrs to the end of the crank and added stress to the crank from the incident. Obviously a new primary also needed. It also messed up my belt. Do you guys think that is too much to ask? This happened at about 920 miles.
Here is a few pics of the terrain for your enjoyment
