Another bad steering post.

Another bad steering post?

Well i was doing my summer storage thing today and noticed my steering post looked bent, after reading so many posts about this i actually thought i was fine but upon inspection i noticed it was bent. I have very low hours on this sled so i am kinda pissed, i also run a 3" riser and i am wondering if thats what did it. I noticed BDX has come up with a fix but now i also have to replace the post tell me what you think and maybe inspect yours, i also wonder if AC will recall these steering posts they are weak as far as i can see.

The BDX fix won't work on a bent steering post but, their new chrome moly steering post sure will.

I haven't looked too closely at mine yet but, I know my bars are now tipped to one side. I have an AMP 2" riser on my bars.

I wish Cat would work a deal with BDX and just warranty the VSB bars with the new BDX Chrome Moly bars. Are the new BDX bars moveable too?

I really want taller a steering post. I'd like one at least 4" taller than the stock post.

I know Wild Child was planning to market a new M series bar setup some time in the near future.

Now, I need to go and inspect my steering post too!

That kinda looks to me from that thar photo like the bend that is supposed to be there. Do your bars look straight and even when you grab the ski's and line them up perfectly straight forward?

The "m" sleds with 4 plugs in the head had a bend in the post from factory.

The post looks normal in your picture.

Ya i was kinda wondering about the post being like that from the factory, i was going to go down to the dealer and check a new sled out and yes my bars look strait when viewing from the back. I still can't figure out why AC would want to bend the post like that from the factory and honestly i never noticed it before but its bent behind the plate so i could have overlooked it either way i hope thats the case. thx

post

^^

How many beer job? How much do you need to take apart?

three beer job if your replacing the post.
but.... like the others have said its suppose to be there, your sled comes with a bent post.
2005-2006 is straight and 2007 and newer is offset

Thanks for the pic that pretty much clears it up, i like the way i got mine set up i was hoping for that news thx again.

I have broke three posts so far... the new one is renforced...they all have broke at the weld near the top.....fordman can show you all the pics of being towed out...mine and his.... good times.... hear the new ones break also....

I still don't get it, why in the world is there no warranty (or voluntary exchange) going on for these steering posts?

Surely, someone is going to get hurt if these posts keep breaking. I would think Cat would want to address this issue BEFORE something bad happens.

For instance..........................

Yamaha announced a "voluntary repair program" for their Rhinos. It's not considered a "recall". Because the repair program is taking place, people might think the action admits liability when it does not. Yamaha is still standing behind the fact that they think their Rhinos are safe but, because a small fraction of the operators have been involved in some type of incident the CPSC (consumer prodcut safety commision) has made the recommendation that wheel spacers be added to the rear wheels and the rear sway bar removed to increase the stability of the machine. This is a "recommnedation" that Yamaha is going along with to ensure customer satifaction and possibly minimize futrue incidents.

Owners that take their Rhinos in for the repair program will have the opportunity to watch a safety video (that was already issued to them when they first purchased their Rhino). Once the repair procedure has been completed and the customer has signed off on viewing the video, they will receive a $100 voucher toward a new helmet of their choice.

This is just an example of how Cat could handle this issue.

Steering post confusion?

I think we have some confusion going on here. Kane13, you have a regular m sled, ie, not a sno pro correct? Frosty, you have a sno pro, we have seen from other posts. Maybe I'm wrong, but I do not think Cat has a problem right now with NON-SNO Pro steering posts. I believe the problem lies with sno pro machines. I have a new to me 09 M8 sno pro that definitely has both a bent steering post as well as a REALLY sloppy connection where the piece that slides up and down connects to the actual steering post. You can tell my steering post is bent because when you look at the sled from the rear, the left side of the handlebars is significantly lower than the right side of the bars. Most guys are breaking these posts, not bending them. But - many guys are complaining about the sloppyness of the connection. All in all I think many people agree with me, the sno pro steering post needs to be addressed by Cat, but I hear it is not going to be.

Also bent a steering post this year on 09 m snopro. Am wondering does this BDX "FIX" still allow for the use of the telescoping system? Also can you do a 2 inch riser block on this telescoping system from cat without changing out stock cables to longer aftermarket ones?

Ya mine is a non sno pro without the telescoping post i have a 3" powermadd riser, and to be honest i have felt the new posts on a brand new 2010 and they feel sloppy compared to the non telescoping i think if i was going to change it would be the fastlane 4" riser post or just a better riser. Oops, you're right. I thought Kane 13 had a telescoping riser.

With my Boss high rise seat my bars are always as high as they go. I guess I really don't need telescoping bars. I just need taller bars.

Do I need to use my AMP 2" riser (that moves the bars an 1 1/2" forward) with the Fastlane steering post, or does it come bent to accomodate this need?

It comes bent. I kinda wish i wouldda went with that, but i put a 4 inch oles angled riser on for a fraction of the price. It doesnt look as nice as the post would have, but for $160 difference i think i will be alright!

Pictures please! I think only the 4" riser post fastlane sells has the 15 degree bend in it.
