Another Avy in BC

Not too sure how you rate slides but that is not exactly considered a "small" slide. Plenty of potential for carnage on the left side of the hill (in pic)

You are correct dieselred. The left side of that hill could of let loose at any moment. My sleds were parked under it in that pic! Also the hill that slid does not end at the place were the you can see. It carries on another 500 or more feet to the top at a lesser grade. Every one searching that day was in danger and knew it. I found myself looking up alot! I'm going for a ride today....in my horse pasture. (It's flat)

Went to Crowfoot yesterday. Played in the meadows and trees - great boon docking and it is technical enough to challenge. Felt like spring snow up there. Very weird this year of year. No point and shoot this year on the back side. Becoming increasingly paranoid with every incident that happens. Phoned my wife three times while I was up there just to reassure her. Don't want someone else to have to phone on my behalf. Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends in Valemont.

I was wondering why there are over 35 people all at once on the hill for recovery?? The tragedy at Fernie was worse because the rescue party got hit by a second avy. You state you kept looking up alot, from the pic, it would have done you no good to know that a second slide was coming down as almost the whole group was in the potential slide path with no means of getting out of the way. I wonder why you wouldn't have worked in small groups in shifts, to minimize the risk with everybody else at a safer distance.

I could be wrong but I believe the buried sledder( and the 2 guys he was riding with had no beacons) so probing was the only way to find him..someone said another 20+ people were also sitting on the sidelines because of no avy equipment.... Pretty sad

Sad to hear this for sure. I know a couple of people that went there this weekend. Hope they are all right.

I am wondering why the Canadian Avalanche Association hasn't upped the conditions to EXTREME yet ANYWHERE?? All year long it hasn't been past HIGH.
Last week a friend of mine did a snowpack test and it was letting go way back to the Dec. 5 persistant layer.

I hope that this was just a sick minded joking comment from someone b/c if there are that many out in the back country without at least the BARE MINIMUM safety equipment,,,, thats ridiculous. Not only for themselves but for the risk of everyone else. Natural selection should be hard at work on them and leave the ones alone who at least put some thought and effort into safety of themselves and others.

Avy

We were at Silent pass today, there people high marking on all bad slopes and climbs, huge over hanging cornices etc. etc.

Avy

Sorry last post sent by mistake.

We were at Silent Pass today and people were high marking all the bad stuff, under huges cornices and know sliding slopes etc. etc.

I seen was more than a few pulls here and there, I seen numerrous tracks in areas which were like playing Russin Roulete, this was all todays activity!

Some people seem oblivious to everything that's going on, if they choose to ignor the danger and not become educated they could very well be next.

I don't believe these individuals are capable of taking advise or are willing to learn until there's a fatality.
