I was at Cottonwood last weekend and all the side roads were closed, I assume they will open when enough snow....could this be the same thing?
I went up there a month ago and saw that sign & closed gate. I thought it was peculiar that they are restricting public land from the public... You should have took & posted pictures of the three other signs nearby that said "This is YOUR recreation area, open your YOUR enjoyment".....

It's not just snowmobiling. You can't even walk your dog off of a leash in the back country anymore.
That is perhaps the most ridiculous thing about the closure. Dogs on a leash in a forest? Wtf?

It doesnt look like it will open back up during the winter, just like the sign says:
"PWC Regulation 253.5 Urad Lake State Wildlife Area ‑ Clear Creek County
a. Public access is allowed from June 1 through the end of the 4th, regular big game rifle season, or until the road is closed due to inaccessibility, as posted. The property will open initially on June 15, 2014.
b. Access is by foot or horseback only.
c. Motor vehicle use is restricted to the designated parking lot only.
d. Camping shall be limited to five days in any 45-day period, except during the big game seasons in designated campgrounds.
e. Fires are prohibited, except in established fire rings.
f. Discharge of firearms or bows is prohibited except when hunting.
g. Boating is prohibited, except for float tubes or craft propelled by hand, wind, or electric motor.
h. Dogs must be kept on a leash, except when used as an aid in hunting.

Really irked about this as well.
Urad lake is a great little lake to ice fish with the kiddos. It's almost self defense! It was always our first trip of the ice season and I was able to test and tune the snowmobiles for the upcoming winter as well.
