Anodizing or Powdercoat

colors

i hear that anodizing fades in the light and depending on where you put it powder can chip. i powdered my idlers knowng full well they are going to chip, but theyll look good for a couple trips kind of like the whole machine untill it rolls down the hill, just take the pictures before you leave the trailer

Either is good,i prefer the choices of Powder and the colors.

depends on where and what look your going for......Powder will be much more durable to wear, and can be touched up if it gets scratched.... as said above, powder has way more possibilities in color and texture

powder coating will also add more weight than anodizing....... so each has a place, but they both have drawbacks....

If you go with anodizing do the type II Hardcoat, not the type I color coat.

I powder coated the whole chassis. No snow sticking anywhere, and the bulkhead was nice because it just rinses clean, no oil and gas or belt dust sticking anywhere, its just wipes/washes clean with very little effort. It added about 2 lbs overall but there is no snow build up on the PC. Anodizing is good for the rails and all the small pieces, really makes them stand out, like others said, there are merits to both. I put anodizing where there is no wear and the parts will stay nice looking. Anodizing does have the cool look about it too, powder coat looks like paint. Both will chip off if you damage them.

2 lbs sounds super light. a bike frame gains about .2 to .25lsb with p/c ...

OK, so call it 5 lbs. My scale was not able to weigh the difference between the coated and uncoated frame, so I figure that it was pretty minimal. By adding up to 5lbs of p/c, I was able to save 10lbs + of snow sticking to the tunnel, so I felt the trade off was worth it.
