LOL!That would drive my nieghbours nuts!If I didn't live on a busy intersection I'd try that.We have enough boneheads that can't stop at the stop signs.Distracting them with a light show would make it worse!

I wanna try and do that next year. Wonder how they did it?

There was a guy on the News in Denver that did that last year and he said he started on it in September. Holy Smokes!

Update on "how to."

I wanna try and do that next year. Wonder how they did it?......... Holy Smokes!
Being the techno-geek that I am, :face-icon-small-win I tracked this down two years ago after some fellow in Ohio (I think) was one of the first to do this.
He used the tune "Wizards in Winter", by "Trans Siberian Orchestra". Maybe some on here remember that.

Basically after selecting a tune to use, they "rip" the CD data, and load to a process controller, with software that allows you to program the light strings to which portions of the tune to get the effect you want, then in turn the PC drives "smart-home" digital type lighting controller/dimmers, that are hard wired to the data network from the PC.

The music for the outdoor display is broadcast over low power, short range FM radio transmitter,( It's legal to do this.) so people driving by can listen on the car radio, and neighbors only have to look at the lights. LOL.
To broadcast over FM you need one of these:

Update edit
Go to this site, look at menu's on left side of home page, and across the top.

Another light automation site, for the necessary hardware:
http://www.lightorama.com/
They explain what is needed to do the animated displays, and where to find the electronics to do it.

Here are some sample vid's, including the one I referenced above. You can see that the style of music makes a difference as to how the lights act. A pulsating style is better than a smooth style makes a big difference.

One of the first examples:

Even better:

Pretty good too:

Here's a video in the "Oh my gawd" category!

Edit of the edit
Sorry Johnny Be Bad, I didn't realize you posted the same one before. At least we like the same vid. LOL.
Merry Christmas, Happy Trails.

That was a realy neat video but it dissapeared from youtube. I was able to find the guy's own web site. Here's the link.

The link originaly posted was for "Amazing Grace" It is in the 2007 section. The "Music Box Dancer" works well with the lights too.

IT's an X10 system... ther'es a module that lets you connect the X10 system to a computer and control lights/modules through the serial port. With a little script you can make what he's got.

Same system used to scare cats here...
