And the first epic f-up for Government Motors is ....

you never could. you couldn't take a gmc truck to a chevy dealer for warrenty

Sorry Blu. The dealer in Steamboat used to do both GMC and $hitty, oops I meant to say Chevy. They basically are the same trucks. Kinda like a Navigator is the same under the hood as a Expedition.

Dog, I haven't seen that many asterisks in one post EVER! Sorry for your dilemma. Trade that in on a Ford, at least you know that Ford is still a company on its own

We have some GMC customers who bought their trucks from GMC dealers but weren`t happy with the service they received. THey come here because some of them feel that they get treated better here that at the other store. There is one system at GM for checking if a GM product is still under warranty. It`s the same system over at the GMC store. YOu`ve got a pi$$y service manager or service writer.

I had a commercial account that needed a warranty transfer case. THey were working in a town 500 miles away. They were refused warranty by the dealer there because they said that it was a lack of maintenance. THey had full records of oil changes, inspections etc. THe service writer stated that there were no visible leaks on the transfer case yet the work order said that there was oil leaking from the input shaft seal. They customer paid to have the work completed and brought the bills to me to deal with. There is no skin off anyone`s a$$ w2hen they negate your warranty work. It all comes back to they guy that sold the truck in the first place.

Not that this SHOULD matter but it does.

If you bring your cross warranty work here to my dealership and I walk around the back and see your selling dealer was elsewhere.....Here is what you wont get,

-Preferred service over existing customer base
-Free loaner if warranty wont pay for it
-Free car wash
-Questionable warranty covered part.....ahh no "GM wont cover that"

Now my piece of advice to you is if you bought it somewhere other than you local dealer. Goto there detail shop sometime and swipe one of there stickers for your vehicle. Stick that baby on there and you will be set:beer;

our dealers in brainerd would not work on our trucks. the 2 dealers are 1 mile apart. they said gm will not allow it. tried it on 2 different trucks. maybe since the dealers are so close i don't know

It's not GM. It's a pi$$ing match between 2 franchisees. One probably didn't play fair and the other one is mad. The stupid thing is that GM warranty can be a pretty good account.

I also have an 05 2500HD with 75,000 on it and haven't seen the issue yet, but I believe I heard of the problem last winter. What exactly is the issue with the speedometer, and how quickly should one get to a dealer on this? As I said...no problem yet. I believe there could be a "class action" lawsuit on this issue.

The speedo gauge cluster issue effects WAY more vehicles than the '04-'05 trucks. It effects some GM vehicles all the way back to 2001 or so.

I had to replace mine on my '04 Duramax. Cost me $300.

GM would fix it for free if your vehicle had under 75,000 miles and was less than 5 years old if I remember right. I didn't get the damn letter until I was over 75,000 miles.

I never heard anything about a class action lawsuit. I would like to get in on that if it's not too late. Anybody got any info on that.

i get my GMC truck warranty work done by the local chevy dealer all the time, never had a problem. and just like dog, there is no GMC dealer anywhere close!!!!!!

The govt doesn't even own part of GM yet, right? All the plans of the govt taking over equity stakes are for when GM comes out of bankruptcy or after restructuring. Right?

Recently had my 04 Duramax done. It is the stepper motors that move the needles on the gauges that go bad. Mine was done under warranty. No charge. Dealer was great. I don't recall the exact length of warranty though. There are some guys that will replace them, if you are out of warranty, alot cheaper than a new gauge pod. Search through the internet and pickup forums for guys that do them. I think I read about it on one of the diesel forums. Good luck!!
